Why do you think that?
There are two reasons I can think of for him making the same decision knowing what he knows today.
1. He didn't like Flipper and wanted out, which is very possible.
2. He wanted the extra money, which Joe D. did not offer.
A third possibility is that he wanted to move to the city of Chicago because of its jazz scene and to ride the El on a regular basis.
