Jerebko

Jerebko: Will this guy be bought out of his Euro contract and play in the NBA, or did the Stones draft him to sit in Europe for awhile. I can't remember the article, but the guys agent said his Euro contract is easy to handle implying that the Pistons implied they are signing him? Do we have to sign him to have his rights or only have to sign him when his other contracts are done?

Re: Jerebko

I think we can wait as only 1st rounders get guaranteed contracts. I think we have rights for 2 years

Re: Jerebko

He said that he'd love to play in NBA, but he wouldn't mind spending a year in Europe if it is what the team wants to do.

Re: Jerebko

An email came out today from the Pistons (deleted it, sorry) but it was Joe waxing poetic over the quality of the draft choices and saying they would all be on the team next year.

Blah, blah, blah...

Re: Jerebko

Jonas Jerebko, a second-round pick of the Pistons, says that his buyout clause won't keep him from playing in Detroit this season.

"Unlike a lot of the European players in the draft, Jonas has a very affordable buyout clause," said agent Doug Neustadt. "Getting out of that, that's not going to be a problem."

Jerebko is expected to play with Detroit's summer league team in Las Vegas, and played for Biella in the Italian league this past season.

"We're looking at him as a guy that could come in and play," said Scott Perry, Detroit's vice president of basketball operations. "But we'll evaluate all that once summer league comes.

"He did a real nice job when he came in and worked out. He was very impressive, very athletic young man, could finish at the rim. We like that about him."

Sounds like maybe he will be playing here next year.

Joe says a lot of stuff. Do you really believe everything he says?

Re: Jerebko

We'll see what happens:
Quote:
"We originally thought we'd have two picks here and leave two overseas, but our plans changed when we were able to get DaJuan and Jonas in the second round," Dumars, now the team president, said Monday at a press conference introducing the players.
The Pistons traded their third second-round choice, which was fine with Dumars.
"We've got three guys here that we think can step in and contribute right now," he said. "We also think they've all got a lot of upside, so we're going to see improvement from that first level."

Summers was projected to be taken late in the first round, but several teams decided to save money by taking players that could stay overseas for at least a year. That let Detroit grab the Georgetown forward with the 35th overall pick.

"I was surprised that I didn't go in the first round, but when I had come to Detroit for a workout, I knew this is where I wanted to play," Summers said. "So in some ways, I'm looking at this is a blessing in disguise."
I thought this was pretty interesting. We already benefitted a bit from the economic situation. So, we should really look at this guy as our 2nd first round pick.
