The waiver period is 48 hours.
So, yes they could do that, but no team is going to do the Pistons a favour and buyout a waived contract that doesn't expire this year.
The only expiring contracts we have are Hunter and Cato. Cato's nothing special to us except the cap room he frees up, and with our current depth, you can't risk trading Hunter.

I agree and disagree. The Fab 5 will probably not start all 82 games, and I think it highly unlikely they will even play 82 games each. Moving Darko creates opportunity for Johnson and Maxiell. Moving Arroyo will create PT for Acker at some point.

Apparently the Hunter bashing has already started.
The Pistons are capable of playing more than one style. Even as the season has wore on they are playing differently than in the first two months. The tempo has decreased after all of that initial energy was expended.
By no means is Hunter half the player Billups is, but I think we can play .500 or slightly better ball with him as the starting PG. The rest of the team is that good.
Heaven forbid if CB went down at the All-Star game, but that would give the team a 57-25 record. Far from a disaster. Probably still homecourt in the East.
