Grant Hill for Pistons

From espn weekend dime :-

"After living through five ankle surgeries and this season's sports hernia with Grant Hill, Orlando is deciding whether to offer Hill a buyout or hang on to him until next season, which is the last season on Hill's original seven-year deal with the Magic.
Buying Hill out would give the 33-year-old a chance to sign with a contender if he holds off on retirement. But Hill could also become a trade asset this offseason through Trade Deadline 2007 with an expiring contract and a salary of just under $17 million.
A buyout or simply letting Hill's contract run out would give the Magic significant salary-cap space in the summer of 2007, but a trade involving Hill holds appeal because there are no guarantees that cap space can lure a marquee addition (or the right player) to join the group Orlando is trying to assemble around Dwight Howard.
Variable No. 3 is Hill's leadership qualities; Howard is still young enough, at 20, to benefit from Hill's presence. No matter what Orlando chooses, it's safe to say that Hill will not play enough for the remainder of this season to change his tragic Magic history. He has never played as many as 20 games in a row since moving to Orlando in 2000, after appearing in 161 consecutive games in one stretch with the Pistons."

Could this be what Joe D was planning when he decided to throw in Carlos Arroyo in the Darko Millicic for Kelvin Cato and a 1st round protected draft pick in 2007? It would be great to have Hill back. If he does, we don't a backup point guard as Hill, Tay, Hunter and even Hunter can play that position for the 8 to 10 minutes.

I just feel that if G Hill were to come back to Detroit, we will win this year and next. What y'all say?

Re: Grant Hill for Pistons

I think Grant Hill would be a giant waste of money, ever since he left here he hasn't had an injury free season. Agreed that he is still a great player when he's healthy but I don't think he can stay healthy for long enough to do the team enough good. I like the youth movement that we have going on the bench (minus Dale Davis & Dice). So thats a resounding no from me!

i just don't think he'll help much with everything that's gone wrong with him, but we've seen dice come back. here's the question if hill is healthy can he really help us?

Hell yeah!

This is a GREAT place for Hill. He is so worth a veterans minimum. I'd go as far as saying he's worth a MLE.

Re: Grant Hill for Pistons

hill is an excellent player when healthy, and i'm sure arnie kander could work his 'magic' ;D heh that would be interesting...we ship hill off for 7 years during his injuries, then get him back and he suddenly doesn't get hurt anymore.

since he'd already make a lot of $ in a buyout, he'd take on a low salary to sign w/a contender. for the pistons it would be extremely low risk and potential high reward. if given the opportunity i'd go for it in a heartbeat.

Re: Grant Hill for Pistons

Having seen him in a couple of games down here, he seems as quick as when he was a Piston. He missed the NJ game and was supposed{?} to miss more but came back last night. He wants to play, and he took a couple of really heavy falls last night. I really did not expect him to get up after the one down the lane where he was kneed in the leg and knocked flying, but he hopped back up like there was no hit.

For the last part of this season and the playoffs, he would fulfill all our needs and then some. And he would not be in the way so as to impede our rookies. What a backup for Tayshaun and with Delfino to back up CB and LH for spot defense, we should get another ring.

Re: Grant Hill for Pistons

After watching Grant play last night for the Magic, I find it highly unlikely that they will release him.

He would be a tremendous addition to the Pistons though.

Re: Grant Hill for Pistons

I don't want Grant Hill back here. It's another guy to find minutes for, another guy who has to learn the system, and need we forget

the poor man can't stay healthy.

You can't devote a roster spot to a guy whose contribution could be in doubt on any given night.

Sometimes the best moves you make are the ones you don't.

Re: Grant Hill for Pistons

My 1st thought would be why not if he was cheap. You guys have good points. He does get injured a lot and Delfino would be asking for a trade given the reduced PT.

Then Hill gets hurt and we have nothing.
