Re: Flip on WDFN 1130 AM @ 5:30

Ok, it was late but pretty wordy so I'll do my best to summarize. Probably work backwards.

* Flip maintains that teams hide stuff for the playoffs, that the regular season and playoffs are two different paradigms. But then he says that everything they have done during the regular season was to prepare for the playoffs. Maybe he means that regular season practice is dominated by post season planning?

* On Delfino (great job Wojo), he starts talking about how great Tony Delk has played, and Delk and Hunter will eat up 2 guard minutes, that with Rip playing 30~32 minutes (is Sidney Lowe or Mike Abdenour asleep at the clipboard?) it's hard to find minutes for guys. That when Evans is playing well, it's hard to take him out and that also eats up Carlos' minutes. Then he goes on to say that they should have played CD against Walker last night?? Dunno, sounds like a topic he really wishes he disn't have to answer, because quite frankly, he doesn't have a good answer for why CD doesn't play. I though Evans sucked yesterday (and I am an Evans advocate), so why Delfino did not get run is beyond me. Maybe he's the playoffs X-Factor?

* On Cato, Flip says that he wants to play Cato and Davis to see what they have down the stretch. I find this interesting because if Cato makes the playoff roster, it's either J-Max or Delfino sitting out. And I think it is possible that Delfino may not make the playoff roster if he is not in Detroit's longterm plans.

* On resting starters, Flip is in Indy right now, and is going to hookup with former college roommate Tony Dungy (Indianapolis Colts Head Coach) to get his insight on resting starters and the impact of doing so, down the stretch. Flip claims that he wants everyone to stay sharp.

I will post more when I listen to the interview again (replay) on Sports Talk Soup between 6~7 PM.

Btw, streaming was playing some weird crap that made me dig out an old AM radio with bad reception.

You know he might be sitting delfino to make teams sleep on him in the playoffs. I doubt it though.

Sorry guys, they didn't replay it so I can't offer more. But the off the court show is on, so as much of that I catch, I will post here as well.

Re: Flip on WDFN 1130 AM @ 5:30

Eric Pate "Off the Court", played an interview with DFN's Matt Dery and Antonio McDyess.

I took notes this time!!!

* Pistons took a defense first mentality into the game last night.

* Shaq is too big and strong to defend once he has the ball, Dice tried to play ball denial and front, with help coming from Sheed on the weakside. This frustrated Shaq. Dice mentioned that Shaq is an 80% scorer when he gets the ball in the post.

* Mentioned that Lindsey did a really good job on Wade.

* Asked Shaq about his thumb, to which the big fat ninja replied that his thumb felt good.

* Also mentioned that both Ben and himself have similar thumb sprains, and it is a season long injury because it keeps getting re-aggravated with PT. This is kinda cool IMHO because it means that Shaq will be playing heavy minutes with Zo out and that thumb should be good and throbbing by season's end.

* REALLY INTERESTING, mentioned that some of the starters have approached Flip about playing the bench more and saving their legs (WHY DOES HE NEED TO BE TOLD THIS?), Dice said the starters feel good about the bench and (without prompting) that Delfino was playing well. After an LB crack by Matt Dery (the biggest Larry hater @ DFN), Dice gave Flip the obligatory "we are happy to have Flip as our coach" type spiel.

I'm out, like Carlos Delfino in the rotation!!!

Good job on that Micro.. I guess it was a recap? Good information...hard to understand some things, like when exactly is he planning on playing Cato and Davis. And what Delfino did to piss him off. Flip still doesn't inspire a lot of confidence in fans I'm afraid.
