Dyess played a nice game. He is clearly further ahead this year at this time of the season than he has been in prior years with us, primarily due to the fact that he worked out during the summer this year.

Our first unit will be fine.

My biggest concern is that right now with AJ hurt our second unit has no rebounding and a lot of inexperience.

AJ will rebound if he gets the minutes, but as a rookie he could have a lot of trouble on defense and get hit with a lot of fouls which will reduce his playing time and contribution.

He holds the key to the second unit. Without him the rotation will be shortened to 8.

Right now I see the minutes as:
---------------------------------

Sheed 32
Dyess 30
JMax 18
Hayes 22
Tay 32
Nazr and AJ splitting 10
C-Bill 32
Rip 30
Hot Rod 24
Flip and AA splitting 10

Starters
-----------
Sheed 32
Dyess 30
Tay 32
C-Bill 32
Rip 30

Bench Main Rotation
--------
Hot Rod 24
Hayes 22
JMax 18

Others = 20
-----------
Nazr
AJ
Flip
AA

Ever since Vegas i have doubted Stuckey's floor general capabilities, but the last game he put up 7 Assists, when his shot wasn't falling well. With Stuckey showing the ability to force fouls and spark others, i think the guard rotation (with Stuckey's continued improvement/increased consistency) is going to be set. As for the bigs, SF looks good with Prince and Hayes, but by taking Dyes out of the bench, we've strengthened our starters while weakening our bench bigs. Before the pre-season even began, Flip was talking about the lack of defensive boards from Max/AJ. Now that is showing up with Max and Nazr on the floor. I don't know how we can change that situation without new personnel. Cheikh seems too foul prone and too easily pushed around to be considered, but maybe he'll change minds while Nazr and AJ are sidelined.

Q. Having missed all seven games, will Amir Johnson be out of the rotation at the start of the season?

A. Most likely. If he can return to practice today (he is expected to), he will play heavy minutes in the exhibition finale Wednesday. Then he has another week to get back into shape. But I don't think that will be enough time.

Assuming Nazr Mohammed also gets back this week, he will probably be the fourth big man at the start of the season. The Pistons open against several teams with big front courts, so Mohammed was likely to be in the rotation anyway.

Johnson is going to have to gradually work his way into the mix as the season progresses.
By big McCosky means heavy in weight, not tall, since AJ is taller than Nazr (and also plays a lot taller and longer than Nazr) , or at least that is what he should mean. LOL

Re: Rotations

I just don't understand this Nazir thing. He obviously did not work out last season so why should we expect anything different now? Certainly has not looked that hot in the pre-season.

Then they take CWebb who was doing great until the Clev series in which no one really showed up and pin the whole thing on him.

Its like fine. Try Nazir again, only going to get the same results as last season. At some point Dumars is going to have to understand that there is no one out there willing to trade for him unless its to get rid of an equally bad contract.

I believe if you go back to last season C-Webb went down hill and never recovered his higher level of play after he got sick on the Pistons western trip.

Odds and ends: The Pistons rotation hasn't been set yet, but Saunders said it will probably consists of nine or 10 players. "We're still trying to work it out," Saunders said. "There's still some guys fighting for time and opportunity." .

Thats 9. A possible 10th - Hunter.

On the other hand, if Dumars manages to get thru to Flip Saunders in his conversations behind the woodshed, just maybe it could be:

Billups, Stuckey, Rip, Afflalo, Prince, Amir, Dyess, Hayes, Sheed, JMAX.

With Mejia and Samb as the 11th and 12th players active. (and playing actual roles, Samb a shot blocker and Mejia a defensive specialist) A guy can dream. I tell you, the 2nd option can win it all. (The first, probably won't win much of anything.)

Maxiel has arrived. He actually played 943 mins last season in a little over 60 games. This season he should see a large increase given his pre-season play. He has to be the choice over going small with Hayes.

How to find time for Amir and Afflalo is going to be the curious thing. One thing about Flip though is that he has extended past the 10th player. They may not always see that much time but they will see some meaningfull time.

Just gave a decent contract to Amir and I would imagine there had to be some discussion on how much he would play for him to re-sign.

Mohammed cannot be more than trade fodder. How many mins they will be willing to throw away on the cause will be soon apparent.

I have posted his stats. Playoff and whatnot. I don't want to do it again. If you can find something in there to prove your case I would love to see it.

Sorry, I don't recall did you break down his stats before and after he got sick?

Thanks

Re: Rotations

When I was looking through the game by game stats last year, I noticed that Nazr had a couple of really solid streaks. 4 solid games in a row with all around production.

It really went down to nothing after Webber got here.
