| Tyrus Thomas vs. Amir Johnson I am not sure how many of you follow college bball, but if you do maybe you will agree with the following: With the exception of muscle and weight I don't see a very big difference between Amir and Tyrus.
Both have unorthodox looking jump shots and are the same height and very athletic. The biggest difference is probably Amir has a better long range jump shot and is a tweener between the 3 and 4 whereas Tyrus is a true 4 not to mention Amir is younger. Interestingly, enough Tyrus was a red shirt freshman last year and was not highly recruited, whereas Amir was highly recruited and skipped college.
So what's my point?? Tyrus is expected to be a top 3 pick in the upcoming draft. So maybe we shouldn't slight Joe Ds drafting ability. Let's face it, Darko will end up being a decent player (at the very worse). He just didn't have a chance to get playing time here and he didn't have the patience to wait (really can't blame him since he was the 2nd pick over all. I have to assume Melo, Bosh and DWade would have lost patience). Amir can be patient he was drafted so late in the 2nd round he owes it to Detroit for even drafting him.
I like our future (Delfino, JMax and Amir) and I like the fact we are going to win a 2nd championship in 3 years!!! Now here is a question you have to ponder. When Joe D traded Darko did he do it for the cap, 1st round draft pick AND because he knew they could barely find time for 1 much less both Darko and Amir (plus Amir is younger and a lot less expensive)?? Who knows the real reason and really who cares!! The Detroit Pistons will continue to be a very good team for a very long time.
I just hope the 2006/2007 season offers an opportunity to give Delfino, Amir and JMax more playing time.. |
