NBA 2006 Season Awards

These are from the NBA GM Survey. I doubt the official results will be any different.

Coach of the Year

Avery Johnson (official)

Most Valuable Player
Steve Nash

Rookie of the Year
Chris Paul

Defensive Player of the Year
Ben Wallace

Sixth Man Award
Mike Miller

Most Improved Player
Boris Diaw

Executive of the Year

Elgin Baylor

Which of these don't belong?

Steve Nash, Michael Jordon, Tim Duncan, Karl Malone, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Moses Malone, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Dr J.

Guys with at least 2 MVP awards. The problem is, who was a better choice? Make a case for Bron, Kobe, Chauncey, etc, but Steve Nash undoubtedly was a large part of a potentially .500 team winning 50 games with a bunch of scrubs (exception: Marion).

Actually LeBron did it too and probably deserved it more, but a 21 year old MVP makes me more upset .

It's kind of sad what a joke some of the season awards have become. It's in some ways a matter of "Well, there's no one better, might as well pick him". I don't want to diss on Ben, but it's similar to the DPOY award. This confirms everybody thinks knows Bowen is dirty, so who could possibly dethrone Ben? God love em, but is Ben really among the all time defensive greats, does he deserve to be in the Hall of Fame?

An MVP that doesn't play defense, a DPOY that doesn't play offense?

This also boosts the NBA Finals MVP up in terms of meaning as well, most people already think more of the MVP of the Finals anyway, but Steve Nash two time MVP kinda kills any respect the award had.

Dice does not get credit for what he does. He wasn't even on the polls for fans or gm's.

Re: NBA 2006 Season Awards

Apparently that's BBen award until Ron-Ron can put in a full season.
Kobe is a jerk-%%%%%%% and doesn't deserve to be considered with the "decent" people.

Still Kobe is the best player in the league until 'Bron wants it. The guy makes ridiculous shots, dunks, and has tenacious defense that is top 10 quality on the ball.

Re: NBA 2006 Season Awards

They should change the MVP award to "Most Outstanding Player" so there is no confusion. I could see Nash and Nowitski battling it out for biggest MOP.

Also, if they are goint to have a DPOY, then why not an OPOY?

Other suggestions:
  • Best starting 5 ever award
  • Coolest goggles
  • Biggest flopper
  • Least valuable GM
  • Mr. Intangible

Best starting 5 ever? I'll go with the '73 Knicks...5 Hall-of-Famers, and 4 of the NBA's 50 All-Time Greatest players!

Re: NBA 2006 Season Awards

Its all politics. I knew we would get somethng. I was expecting MVP - Billups and DPY for Ben and COY - Flip. At least we got one.

I heard or read somewhere that the MVP always goes to one of the top teams recordwise so I knew Lebran would not get it. Kind of figured it might have been Billups, Duncan or Dirk. I did not see Nash comming as its extrmerly rare to win it twice in a row. With Stoudamire it has been amazing that the Suns finished as high as they did.
