Re: Ben Wallace Defensive Player of the Year

So, does Ben get the calls tonight after being officially named DPOY? It's gotta be good for a couple hacks.

Man I don't know about y'all but in 100 tries.....hell yeah I'm gonna score ONCE!!!! Ben likes to block shots, meaning if he blocks my first 75 shots he's primed for a good pump fake on #76. It wouldn't be pretty, but I'll get one hoop. And me a duufuss, sitting there celebrating a fg% of 1%.

I guess if you have at least 100 tries. Maybe I could score when Ben went to get a drink of water, or took a phone call.

I have some experience with this having recently purchased the inflatable defender Ben Wallace for my son. The inflatable defender (inflatabledefender.com) looks like Ben Wallace except he can't move. He has handles on the back so you can have someone grab him and smack him into the offensive player while he is shooting. I would say the experience is very close to having the real Ben Wallace guard you.

I can score well over 50 per cent of the time on Ben, not counting the times the plug came loose and all the water drained from the base.

Re: Ben Wallace Defensive Player of the Year

One of the grossly under-looked assets that Ben provides is how few fouls he comits... he's the last line of defense and he has to leave his man... most players would be late and cause a foul... his timing is impeccable.. knowing when to leave his feet and when to improve his position.... they should have a stat of offensive fouls... Ben positioning is exceeded by none.
Now lets talk about a guy that can defend PG's on the perimiter... who's better on the P&R?

Let's NEVER EVER take for granted Ben's footwork... it don't exist with any other 5 man.
Then there's the steals... deflections... tips to team mates...loose balls etc.

His defense creates offense...it's typically not recognized as an ofensive skill.

Good point! I love the way Ben can jump out on the perimiter, defend a guard, and get back to his man (or his spot) in time to further affect the play. There is no other "5" who can do that. I'd like to see Ben get "one for the thumb" next year. In a Pistons uni of course!

Actually, they have been keeping track of that stat this year.

http://www.82games.com/charge.htm

Ben took the 6th most charges in the NBA. The Pistons as a team were near the bottom in this category though. On the other hand, the Pistons commited the 2nd fewest offensive fouls (probably correlating to our low points in the paint stat).

The 2 standouts are that Phoenix blew away the field by taking 114 more charges than they committed. And the Knicks, who charged 118 more times than they took.

Re: Ben Wallace Defensive Player of the Year

TaS, considering the Nash's running style where did they rank on charges?
3rd, they defend the slash as well as they slash.
NYK, strickly play with cash.

Re: Ben Wallace Defensive Player of the Year

All Defensive teams came out today and Jason Kidd made 2nd team.

Am I missing something here? I don`t follow NJ that closely, but somebody help me out here. Is JK worthy of this?
