I can't record it but this interview is insane.

McDyess was very candid about what was wrong with the team. He said that Flip's past playoff performances have crept into guy's minds.

It wasn't very positive but not overtly negative. He just told it the way it is. I would post it, but after we win tonight, it will seem like pissing in the pool.

He also said that if the shots aren't falling they need to get the ball inside to Sheed. If I am not mistaken, I think he said you have to get Sheed mad to get him going though.

He also said that some of the players have indicated that they are just plain tired and they are out of sync and the confidence level is dropping.

NBATV just had a piece on the Pistons success this year... from training camp til the playoffs... In these uncertain times it's easy to forget how special this year has been up til now... they're talking about how tight the team is...clips of them blowing teams out... offense clicking....
Man what the hell happened.

Re: McDyess on WDFN Today

I caught part of the interview. Stoney (or whoever it was) talked about how Dice was so pissed after game 4 (I think) he just left the court and went to his car. No shower, no change of clothes, no speaking to the press or the team, no nothing.

Dice was very candid. He admitted that players were comparing the preparations and adjustments made by LB to those made by Flip. And they wern't happy about them. They were wondering....no questioning (I'm paraphrasing here) if Flip had what it takes to get to the next round. He admitted that Ben thought they should be practicing defense more (now); and that he thought they should be focusing on offense more.

He said "nothing happened" after game 2 of the Cleveland series. He also said the team is still tight; and that they still respect the coach; and that all this "grumbling" had more to do with frustration from losing. He felt like a win would make it all better.

Re: McDyess on WDFN Today

Very interesting. This kind of timely information about a player interview is just what I love about Pistonsforum.com. Any time of day or night, I can get the breaking news and analysis about what is happening with the Pistons.

The part about the players questioning Flip's playoff preparation and adjustments rings really true to me. I had two coaches when I was a serious college athlete. One was a veteran coach who had coached Olympic champions. The other was a rookie college coach who was just getting started coming from very successful amateur age group coaching. The new coach was the better coach for me, and I came farther faster under him. But all that season I questioned whether he knew what he was doing, even though I had great success. And I transferred back to the old coach in spite of that success.

The jury is still out on Flip for me. I would prefer for my own viewing pleasure that we had a defensive minded coach. But I just found it makes sense that in time of stress of losing in the Cleveland series, this would become a huge issue for players. Like Dice said, the players let it get in their heads.

The whole thing of pursuing a title is so fragile, isn't it?

Very astute observation.

These opportunities are few and far between in today's NBA. Nothing is guaranteed. Nothing should be taken for granted.

My theory is that when Flip didn't substitute at the start of the fourth quarter(with a large lead), the team read him as 'in over his head' and gripping to hard. Whenever I have been in a work situation where the crew realizes that the boss is in over his head and uncertain of what to do, the work effort immediately drops way off. It is just a theory but it is easy to pinpoint when things went way south.
