I like Adelman too, but I have a hard time imagining Flip being shown the door after one season....

Re: Next Year

Joe D is nobody`s fool and he was very quiet during the confusion and chaos during the last few weeks of the regular season and playoffs. I can guarantee you, if Dumars is planning a coaching change for the upcoming season or the next he has someone in mind.

He also knows that he can`t hire a passive coach, or someone that`s going to be a tough guy (Bill Lambieer) with no experience to handle this current roster.

Rick Adelman, as mentioned by Micro would be a good choice. He is available and a proven winner. When Sacremento was battling LA for "left coast" supremacy a few years ago their lack of success didn`t fall in the lap of Adelman. However, as the coach he had to shoulder some of the blame.

If Hubie Brown`s health wasn`t a factor I would go after him. Then again, in todays NBA Hubie might be best to stay behind the mic!!!!!!!

Re: Next Year

Sure glad we ain't in charge...

Delks been gr8 we gotta get him inked this summer... nope he's not a PG

C.B. for MVP.... Ship him

Lindsay should be a defensive situational sub only... man we should have used LH more.

Tay is a supreme choker... Only guy who showed up in the playoffs

Gotta lock up Ben this summer.... he's a liability

Sheed brought the difference to the team... first order of business is to move the no-show

Flip has opened up the offense goin' for 70 baby!...this team can coach itself... Geesh he's arranging furniture on the Titanic instead of making adjustments...can't get along with the players... Fire da bum

Fortunately we have a patient GM... Still a top 4 team...

Massive changes and playing all the bench regularily is a recipe for failure.... somebody has to sit out...

You'd like to think the coach has a better understanding of his personell than folks on a forum.

This squad came up a little short on talent... it doesnt always have to be a conspiracy.

Re: Next Year

You would like to think the coach has a better idea about his personnel than the folks on this forum, or at least work with what Joe gave him.

I'm not a fan of the 357 school of rotating 12 men all game, but sitting Davis and Delk as the playoffs wore on hurt.

You're right it's a talent issue. All Joe can do is equip the coach with talent and then let him work. If Delfino, Maxiell, Johnson and Acker are not young talent he can work with, they he needs to bring in some new faces.

The original knock on Flip was that he struggles to find a consistent rotation. I was worried that he might rotate too many guys. On the contrary, he didn't rotate enough in a high stakes season.

If Ben's gone (which I don't want to see, but Dobek's flunkies are promoting already) they'll have to move swiftly because a Chauncey/Sheed leadership cabal scares me if the Pistons want to stay near the top.

Re: Next Year

If Ben goes the entire character of the team will change, and not for the better. (It's already changed, but it will change even more if he's not around.) He seems to have trouble maintaining his energy level nowadays, but he's still the heart of the team. He's still the guy wielding the sledgehammer.

Without him, I really think we're going to be lost, if not during the regular season, then certainly come playoff time. How do you replace a guy like that?

I'd always taken it as a given that Ben would choose to stay, but I'm beginning to wonder now.

Re: Next Year

I would like to somehow keep Ben and get KG. It would restore the hunger that our team lost when they won it all. KG would possibly want to come and play for Flip again. KG's acceptance of Flip and his defensive attitude may smooth things out with Ben.

The only starter that I'm willing to part with is Sheed. I would offer Sheed, Dice, Delfino, + Orlando pick for KG.

Our starting 5 would then be: CB, Rip, Tay, KG, Ben

I'd beg lindsay to come back for one more year. The bench would be:
Lindsay, Delk, Evans, JMax, and Davis. Acker and Johnson would be bonus.

We don't need a bench if you replace Sheed with a guy that shows up every night. Minny would be trading out of their conference.

Re: Next Year

KG's had some knee problems.

What do you do when you trade half your team away and he can only play 50 games?

Re: Next Year

I agree with Micro. As much as I'd LOVE to have KG in a Pistons uniform, I just think we'd have to give up too much to get him. Going with Davis and J-Max as our 2 "bigs" off the bench scares the crap out of me!

I also agree with Merc about everything, except I really don't think that Flip understands the personell on this team. I think that was one of the biggest problems we had. He didn't trust the bench and it blew up in his face. The players revolted, protested, complained and asked to be traded.

I've been thinking about it a lot, and I'm willing to give Flip a second chance. I'm going to hope and pray that he comes to his senses and really learns from his mistakes this season. It took a lot of guts for him to take this job, so I'll cut him a very small amount of slack.

I'm going to expect him to do a lot of soul searching during the offseason and come back re-energized and with a much better understanding of what is needed to win not only in the regular season, but most importantly IN THE PLAYOFFS.

And if his soul searching doesn't work, I expect Joe D to do some searching with his sole for Flip's %%%!!!!

You've got one more season to prove yourself Flip. Better get to work!!!

Re: Next Year

I believe the right thing to do is trade Mo Evans... we know what he's capable of and he may have some trade value based on his O stats.

Give Delfino a legit chance to win or lose the backup spot (with competition from A.J.)... if he ain't cutting it by Feb then package him.

Set Ben's price tag limit to starting at 8.5M first year for 4 years

Let next year play out until the Feb trade deadline without big changes...
Pay close attention to how Shaq responds next year to age and injuries.... he may decline rapidly and we may not need to make significant changes.

Use the MLE for depth at Center.

Give Acker a legit look early in the year... if he's not getting it done move Dale Davis's contract for a young drive and dish PG (with some defensive ablities)... D.D. looks like he's running in quicksand in his mid 30's

If we still have problems with teams like Miami & Cleveland then pull the trigger on moving one or two of the starters by the Feb cut off.

Any big trades this summer could set the franchise back more than it is now.... We've got some youth to find out about (small doses at a time)... the answers could be on the roster already. Only consider low risk high reward deals until you're sure there's not a choice.
