Ben is THE preeminent FA on the market. Whatever his flaws at the FT line, a team gets an instantly marketable star, if he's in the East, a lock to be an All-Star (particularly if he can play help defense) and a possible DPOY.

We're talking about a top 5 rebounder (on a bad year) and a top 10 shot blocker (on a bad year).

At earning $80+ million dollars (over 6 years). It makes no sense to expect him to take between $40 and $45 over 4.

This is guaranteed money. He ain't gunna get it after this next deal has completed.

Thats exactly why I'm worried. This team is done if Ben goes and the way things ended this year Ben just might leave.

Adelmans track record is about as bad as Flips as far as playoff exits. Remember he coached Portland and he coached the queens er kings with no rings involved.

Brother Abe,

Adelman is a much better coach than Flip and has substantially more experience.

He's been to 2 Finals, taking Jordan's Bulls to 6 games in 1992. He's a career .515 playoff coach.

He's got more wins in the playoffs than Flip has wins and losses combined. Not bad for a coach with a bad record...

KG has missed 9 games in the last 7 seasons! He is about as resilient as anyone in the entire league. And he plays hard.

As far as what we are giving up for what we are getting...

KG:
22 points, 13 rebs, 4.5 assists, 1.4 steals, 1.7 blocks, 10.0 on the hunger scale

Sheed/Dyess/Delfino:
27 points, 14 rebs, 4.0 assists, 1.9 steals, 2.3 blocks, 5.0 on the hunger scale

Pretty similar. To get a player like KG, you have to give up something. Only losing 1 starter is not bad.

And talk about knee problems... what about Dyess?

1. KG played on a bad knee. Not the smartest decision for a lottery team.

2. You can't look at straight up what we are getting. The ball is in KGs hands all the time @ Minny. What you give KG here up and above will come at the expese of Tay and Rip.

3. McDyess' knee problems appear to be for the most part in the past. His knee was never an issue this year.

4. You're giving up a first round pick in Delfino, a top 5~8 PF in Sheed and one of the best 6th men in the league.

When KG gets injured, won't you miss having a backup PF? Or is it better to have $20+ million sitting in street clothes?

Jack the Trader almost pulled a deal like this for Moses Malone. It was Laimbeer, VJ and two other players. Would have ruined the Bad Boys run for a title. Sometimes the moves you don't make are the best ones.

Btw, it's tendinitis in his knee, and he has been listed as day-to-day on injury reports going back at least as far as February.

That's a $20 million next year, $22 in 07/08 and $24 in 08/09.

Still think this is such a great deal?

Sheed for all his talent is a liability. He can't be relied to produce like a Top 5 PF. Ben is an offensive zero and teams have started to develop a playoff strategy for him. That reduces the starting 5 to 3 scorers. None of them have enough talent to take over games and it's beginning to show. Lacking a superstar this team to have a 5 parts producing at peak.

Only problem is who can the Pistons get of equal value? Easier said than done.

Yes, I really do. I think it is such a good deal that Minnesota would probably not go for it.

Sheed played some very lazy basketball in this post-season. He hit some 3-pointers, but that was about it. Dyess completely disapeared in most of the big games. Delfino competes with Mo Evans for minutes and doesn't clearly stand above him.

KG gets a lot of touches, but that is because other teams have to double team him. I would love to see him pass out of double teams to Rip, CB, Tay, and throw some alley oops to Big Ben. He could play on crutches and still provide more of a post presence than Sheed.
