For Phx this is their 4th elimination game of the post-season. If they win tonight then every series they played will be a 7 gamer. Do they look tired? |
Max, good point, but......is it really fair to compare Phx to Detroit's situation. I don't think so. First of all, the Suns are a running team; that's all they do is run; therefore, their energy level is much higher than other teams. Plus, Phx had 4 or 5 players, coming off the bench, playing a great deal of minutes, EVERY GAME.

The Piston's starters, didn't have that luxury, except for McDyess and Hunter. But even Hunter didn't play that many minutes. Mo, Delk, and Delfino seldomly played. I'm still wondering why we had Dale Davis and Cato, since neither played but a few minutes every 3 or 4 games, if that much. I kept hearing Detroit was saving Cato and Davis for Shaq. We could have also used them in the Cleveland series to bang Zeke and Gooden around a bit. Knock Lebron a** off whenever he came soaring to the basket.
I'm not trying to take anything away from Miami, they played great. However, no one has yet to convince me that Miami was the better team.

I don't even think they wanted it more than the Pistons. The bottom-line is, the Pistons not only were struggling with minor injuries, but they were EXHAUSTED. They didn't have the energy to execute plays, make shoots, and play Detroit defense for 40+ minutes a game. They might have been able to accomplish this is 30 minutes a game, but not 40. I don't know about any of you, but when I am tired, I get frustrated and nothing works, no matter how hard I try.
And that's where I blame Flip at. Yea, Flip was not the one out there playing, missing shoots, etc...However, he was the one in charge of utilizing the bench players so that the starters would NOT have to log SO many minutes in every game. Hunter said toward the end of the regular season that Flip needed to "trust his bench." Flip should have allowed those guys to play at least 10 minutes a game, which would have allowed them (the bench players) to get into some type of rhythm, and also would have given the starters the much needed rest.
