Re: Joe D on 1130 Soon!

Joe D said that Delfino is "part of this team's future," and "I was disappointed that he didn't play more," and "I let Flip know I was disappointed he didn't play more." These words might be too late to placate Carlos though.

Damn it, Flip!

Thanks for the heads up, Himat. I turned it on in time to hear Dumars talk about Big Ben and Delfino. I missed the first part.

Re: Joe D on 1130 Soon!

its uncanny how close he sounds to the other interviews on pistons.com.

Dumars said that he was very disappointed that Delfino didn't play and "said in no uncertain terms" that kid should be on the floor more to Flipperooney.
He did stammer a LOT getting to the Delfino issue so I think there's a lot on his mind when it comes to the young player.

Re: Joe D on 1130 Soon!

Clears some things up
  • Wants to keep the 6 players that make up the core, but he's told Flip and will try to make a move to get a 8-9 man rotation.
  • Wants Ben back
  • Thinks Carlos should play more.
  • He also said the team is finally listening. He said when you're winning it's hard to truly listen and the team now knows they're not going to be considered the top team next season. I hope this means they'll play with a chip on it's shoulder.
  • He talked to Flip about some of the things that went wrong.
  • He wants to find a guy who can come off the bench and help.
  • He's mainly looking for a guy who can get us POINTS IN THE PAINT whether its a quick gaurd or a big man in the post.

Why did he get Mo if the desire was to develop Delfino?

That's a good question. I guess there were doubts as to Delfino coming back with the goods...mental and physical. I saw Evans as insurance but he became the replacement

Audio will be posted around 6:00. I have to run out for a bit. Kudos to The Low.

Re: Joe D on 1130 Soon!

So if the only guys JD will try to replace is 7-9 how are they going to make a big impact on our post scoring?

The team is finally listening? So what were they doing on their way to 64 wins? Was that "not listening"?

BTW everyone I'm sure JD has talked to Delf already. MLive has an article which includes some quotes from Delf from today or yesterday that he says he wants to be here but just doesn't want to continue playing so little time. Joe was also the one that calmed Delf down after his tift with LB last year. Joe loves Delf, he ain't going nowhere.
Quote:
After appearing in just 30 games as a rookie during the 2004-05 season because of a knee injury, Carlos Delfino was optimistic that he would play more this season. That didn't happen.

While he appeared in more games (68), the 15.3 minutes per game he averaged under ex-Pistons coach Larry Brown dropped to 10.6 per game under coach Flip Saunders this season.

"I don't want another season like that," said Delfino, who will play for Argentina's National Team this summer. However, he said he has not talked to the Pistons about trading him. "I want to be here. I expect to be here," Delfino said. "I want to play here."
Joe does hold his cards close to his chest, but I have a feeling he's going to play it safe this year. Bench mixing, and that's it. I don't think we have a chance next year if that is the case.

Joe D will try to get guys in the offseason who can get us points in the paint and those 8-9 guys can help the starters load a lot. As for not listening when the team started to go downhill they wouldn't lose they wouldn't listen, but when they lost of course they're going to listen now it's human nature.
