Speaking of which. Now that Ben is gone, when do you think the Palace sell out record will end? Do you think it'll have an affect?

Don't forget that Nazr Mohammed and Flip Murray are big fan drawing cards. Get your tickets early this season...

Good point. They may have to put an addition on the Palace!

Especially when Mo Evans (and his Lakers) are in town. Scalpers will be out of control that night...

There Will Be Nothing At The Palace To Honor Old Number 3. That Right Was Sold For The Money. You Know Money Isn't Everything!

Re: Advice to new Detroiters

this jersey retirement thing has got me thinking. its quite possible that we will be seeing less and less jersey retirements for the short-mid term future at least. players change teams so often these days that a player no longer associates with just one team for their entire careers.

ben will have played most of his career in detroit and is the team he wll be most heavily associated with, but because of this move to chicago he most likely won't get his jersey retired.
if he had spent his last years here, even degenerating into a little-used sub by the end, there is no question he would.

although many players in the past have played for different teams, usually they can be associated mainly with 1 team. some have been lucky enough to have their jerseys retired by more than 1.
wilt (3 teams)
drexler, kareem with 2, etc.

so who were the last guys to have their jersey retired?

reggie miller (IND) 2006
karl malone (UTA) 2006
jason collier (ATL) 2005 (Due to tragic circumstances)
scottie pippen (CHI) 2005
sean elliot (SAS) 2005
david robinson (SAS) 2004
john stockton (UTA) 2004
patrick ewing (NYK) 2003
mitch richmond (SAC) 2003
hakeem olajuwon (HOU) 2003

so you can see that most of these players if not all are heavily associated with just 1 team. it will be interesting to see whether players in the future will miss out on jersey retirement altogether (such as ben), or be multiple retired. (shaq)

i found a lot of interesting anomalies while researching this such as miami retiring jordan's 23. wtf?

if anyones interested here is the link:

Re: Advice to new Detroiters

I think they'll retire his jersey. I mean, he basically turned the franchise around. He was the foundation to a title team. Period. As much as I hate the fact that he left for a rival, he still deserves to have the number retired. If not him, then who from this group? Chauncey? Maybe, but he could do the same thing a year from now. I don't see Rip or Sheed as retirement material, and Tayshaun is a ways off if he does (he would be for sure if he's a lifer).

Re: Advice to new Detroiters

I Don't Think Ben's Jersey Will Get Retired Here. We Owe Him Nothing. He Left For A Rival In Our Own Division. He Will Be Lucky If He Doesn't Get Booed Here. He Gave All That Stuff Up When He Bolted. And He Is Running His Mouth.. It Would Be Up To Management And I Don't Think Ben Will Get Anything.. He'll Get What Larry Brown Got . Resented For His Disloyalty..he Was Going To Be The Highest Paid Piston Ever. But It Was Not Good Enough. He Wants Everyone To Suck Up To Him And It Ain't Gonna Happen In Chi-town.. Too Bad Ben!!!

Re: Advice to new Detroiters

Ben's jersey will get retired if this team falls out of the playoffs in the next decade and we are scheduled to play the Atlanta Hawks to a less than half full arena.

It's business, and Ben's jersey will go up when it makes business sense.

Unless of course he wins a title or two in Chicago, in which case they will probably hang his jersey first just to piss off Detroiters.

Lucic cut his hand in a fight with Michael Komisarek. "I'll be fine," he said. "(X-rays are) negative, but there's so many broken bones in there from before you can't really tell."
