Interesting

Bill Simmons wrote an article about Doc Rivers impending firing. In said article he makes a correlation that when players say certain things, it means the coach is bad. Here are some of the quotes mentioned:

"You usually know when your players are constantly saying things like "We just need to sustain that intensity for four quarters," "We need to play the kind of defense we're capable of playing," "We can take big leads, now we need to learn how to keep them," "We're a young team, so we're still learning how to bring the same consistency every night," "We have to start getting stops," and my personal favorite, "We need to learn how to execute down the stretch.""

Funny, every DetNews article has those same remarks.

Re: Interesting

Yeah, or when they make other subtle comments like "The coach sucks" or "Flip has a basketball IQ equivelant to that of a pre-cambrien haploid".

Re: Interesting

Simmons is a little disingenuous.

Those are things also said by players on losing teams (pretty much exclusively losers) and any coach of a losing team can be on the hot seat.

The only exception are first year coaches of losing teams. "Most" organizations have a grip on their prospects for a coming season and someone like Dwayne Casey in Minnesota was not expected to contend for a title.

The Celtics... a team loaded with good young talent... playing like young players do without enough veteran influence... watch whatcha ask for.

Re: Interesting

Don't forget when players and coaches consistently use the tired legs, being tired from the west coast trip, trying to play our way into shape, coach still commiserating over last years defeat in the playoffs.
