Acker vs. Dupree

If these first few preseason games are any indication it would appear that Dupree has the upper hand on that last roster spot. Also, this quote: "I feel I'm going to be here (in Detroit)," Dupree said. "As far as making the team, I'm not really concerned about that." Is that just confident optimism?... or does he know something that we don't?

What do you want to bet that we are looking for a team overseas, right now, that can take Acker off our hands for a year? We did the same thing with Paulding, right?

One thing is for sure if we end up "losing" either Acker or Dupree my disdain for Lindsey will continue to swell. How much does anyone see Hunter contributing anyway? I don't see him getting more than 5-10mpg in the playoffs- simply as a change of pace defensive specialist. Is it worth possibly losing a good young prospect over? I hope so.

I'm wondering about Acker's contract status. Now that he has a non-guaranteed deal, does this mean that we lose his rights if he isn't on the roster?

Dupree seems to be playing very well, but we are already deep at that position and his contract ends this year anyway.

Interesting predicament for Joe.

I would come in favor of Dupree

Ron is capable of contributing this year and I have doubts if any of the rooks are going to be able to make any real contribution THIS year. I believe they are all going to be good players but not yet. Ron can contribute now; he could have last year, but is a complete grade better this year.

I am also of the opinion that I would lose a little of my very real respect for Lindsay if he stays, if it means we have to lose either Acker or Dupree. I just cannot see Lindsay making a huge contribution this year, but I have been wrong before.

I was wrong about one thing, one time. I thought I had made a mistake.

This is how I look at it... If we can send Acker over to Europe for a year and hold his draft rights, then we keep Dupree and do that. If not, Dupree needs to be cut (or traded). It's not like he's going to get playing time with Evans and Delfino around anyways, so it's pointless to lose a talent like Acker (who is very versatile), just to have Dupree rot on our inactive list for another year. It's better for everyone if Dupree leaves. He won't get any minutes here as it is.

beware of horse

Not to beat a dead horse but.... I'm about to beat a dead horse.

I've said it before but I'd prefer seeing Ron make the roster and sending AJ to the D league for a season.

He's the youngest and least NBA ready of our rookies, in my opinion.

However, if CA can hold down the backup PG spot, barring injury, we should be pretty good at G with all of our combo G/F's. So given Acker's non guarenteed contract, he'd be a good candidate for the D.

I'd rather see AJ go down rather than Acker, but I'd also rather see Ron on the team than 2 more rookies. Just from a development stand point for the rookies and from a leadership and proven veteran stand point for the bench.

Alright I'm done. My foot is getting tired from all this kicking.

jammer, we can only send a roster guy down.

It doesnt solve the problem by sending someone to the D-League because we can only carry a max of 15 including the guys in the minors.

So someone still has to get voted off of the island...

We need Dupree & the 3 little Bears

Let me make this perfectly clear. I love Lindsey Hunter! I believe he has been a great Piston, if not a great player. He has acquitted himself for not being the next Isiah, by being, in his later years, a significant reason we got the ring.

Having said all that, it's time for us to drop the pacifier, and get on with the business of living and winning. Lindsey needs to retire to make room for the next generation of Pistons.

Let's face it, if we need Lindsey to win, we're in worse shape than we think. Someone can, and will step up to fill the void, and they'll be doing it on younger, faster, and stronger legs.

So, who'll be the first to put a clipboard in Lindsey's hands?

Undecided

I need to see Acker play more to make a judgement. So far I have seen 3 mins of him and was not impressed. But Billups has been working with him and if he takes the time then something must be there.

I was under the impression that because Acker's contract wasn't guarenteed yet it wouldn't count against our 15 if we sent him down.

My thinking was that we could send Acker down and keep Dupree because Acker wouldn't count against our 15.

I'm not very familiar with the D league and how it all works. My bad.

It would be nice if it worked like the NFL does with the practice roster where the players don't count against the active roster, but can be added at any time. (Except for the part about being able to be signed by another team at any time).

Or like hockey or baseball where you can call guys up and send them down much easier.

Acker vs Dupree?

This seems to be what it comes down to.

Pencil me in as a vote for Ronnie!
