| Re: WDFN 1130AM Flip Saunders Interview Jan 11 2007 summary . . .
with Chauncey out, we're worse defensively, and we haven't had anyone who can run the sets correctly and feed the big guys in the post
we've been inconsistent in our play
now that we've had 30 games to see what we have, you'll see Dale Davis getting more opportunities because of his defensive presence--he might work better with Sheed than Nazr does
I'm going to sit down and talk to Sheed--other guys have talked to him
he came into camp, wasn't in great shape, we played him a lot of minutes to use the season to get him in shape, we got him in shape, then he got tired, got a little sore, and since he came back he hasn't been the same as before he shut it down
I think we've got to get him in better physical shape, and everything else will be better too
Sheed is very frustrated by Chauncey being out, they run a lot of pick-and-rolls and play extremely well together, Chauncey is our best post feeder, and he has a sense of knowing when Sheed is ready to go into the post and start doing things and when he's not
[last night Sheed seemed unusually unhappy, and didn't even joke around with Rick Mahorn]
a lot of people, including Sheed, weren't happy because of blowing the lead in the 2nd quarter
I think there's a few reasons, and I'm going to talk to him tonight, but he maybe has become so conscious of this no technical thing the way the league is that he's holding back too much--he's an expressive person and he needs to be expressive, that's usually when he's playing his best
[something seems to be missing with the team--do you need an infusion of something like getting Webber]
I can't talk about that, it's a decision Joe makes--Joe has always been very proactive, he won a championship three years ago because he went out and got Sheed at the right time--any time you get new players there's always a bump in energy
[what kind of player is Webber at this point and could he help?]
I'm not allowed to talk about that, even though he's on waivers now
[what about any of the acquisitions being discussed?]
we need energy guys on the floor--that's why Delfino has played better for us recently, his energy level, the same goes for Maxiell
the league has changed and energy guys are big right now
we're going to meet with the staff to decide if Sheed will start in Atlanta |
