| Re: If this is true... The whole Ed Martin thing seems like a long time ago if you're not a UM fan, but it destroyed the program and still is. We now have Tommy Amaker coaching and haven't been in the tourney in forever. This used to be an elite basketball program, and Webber, tho not the only one guilty of bringing it down, played a major role. That's reasonable cause for bitterness for UM fans. I can see why non UM fans don't see a connection, and that's reasonable. Instead of not wanting him around, my approach is that I want him to pay his debt to basketball fans here (at least the UM ones) by helping to get us rings. | Re: If this is true... I don't think it would be devastating if Webber does not choose our team. Everyone knows about the scandle so you can blame it on that. Last Fri it seemed like a done deal. Now probably, front runner, between 3 other teams. Who knows? I do know that we need some help up front. Maybe Webber would not be enough but he would be better than nothing. We do not need Peterson, there is nothing wrong with the backcourt or SF spot - barring injuries of course. Our frontcourt sucks this year. Something has to be done. | Re: If this is true... mlive.com says this morning its a done deal that Webber is coming here. Also, freep.com mentions that Pat Riley believes Webber is heading to Detroit. This all sounds pretty convincing to me. Welcome aboard Chris Webber. Last edited by Lee356 : 01-15-2007 at 08:32 AM. |

| Re: If this is true... Webber to Detroit, IMO, is really about how much we've gotten stale. We snubbed him in the past because we were salary and chemistry conscious. We no longer have that luxury. The team is broke. If anything, Webber will give us some interesting sub plots. In an ideal world just shaking up the stagnation on this team would light a fire under everyone's asses. Detroit makes a lot of sense to me. He can be the guy that gets us over the hump if he isn't going to be the self obsessed whiner that he has been. Also, we can use Mo Pete and swing delfino over to SG. Flip has apparently worn out his welcome. We would need to move 2 guys (not DD) in order to keep a sliver of PT for Maxiell.

| Re: If this is true... Amaker and the UM athletic department have had PLENTY of time to revamp that basketball program. I think it's due time to quit holding Webber (and others) accountable for the current state of the UM b-ball program. Besides, the Fab Five did a lot to bring in money to that program. I think it's a wash. Part of the problem was Fisher anyway. If you read Mitch Albom's "Fab Five," it's pretty obvious Fish wasn't minding the store. The guy was not in charge of that team. He was a total pushover, which is why he's at second-rate San Diego State.

| Re: If this is true... Assuming we get Webber that`s great, however, how much will he really help? How long will it take him to learn Flip`s` offense? If C-Webb plays the high post passing PF where the offense goes through him at times, how will that affect CB `s game once he gets back? It would definitely reduce his scoring oppurtunities, and 3 point bombs, which is a good thing. The way C-Webb is talking I am sure he wants to be at least the third option in the offense, with Tay Rip, CB, and Sheed.......hmmm. Flip will have to perform the coaching performance of his career to get this team to the promised land with or without C-Webb. One thing is certain, look for Webber to play focused and unselfish. He realizes that this is his best chance since the Sacremento Queens to win a ship. However, if he senses Flip doesn`t have control of this group it could get ugly down the road. My point is, Flip`s coaching, and the attitude and unselfish play of our All Stars will determine how the acqusition of Webber works out, if it happens!

Nazr is the only player who consistently can play center...be it 30 min or 15. He will not hurt you and deficiencies on the defense will now blend in with CWebb's presence...meaning Flip's zone becomes the Sine qua non. This team has gotten slower and older. JD is going for the brass ring, just like Denver. Flip will play along (nothing new here) and we can expect diminished minutes for Delfino and JMax. Fairly easy pattern to distinguish, don't you think? Minn. would take Nazr in a hearbeat. |
