Flip Saunders - Out of rope?

I've flip flopped (pun intended) back and forth on Flip Saunders. Last season, I did a complete 180 and actually endorsed him as a good coach.

I need someone to humour me, and in a deliberate fashion, explain exactly what it is that Flip Saunders does well. Because the way I feel right now, I can't come up with anything.

Re: Flip Saunders - Out of rope?

lol.. umm I cant think of anything he does especially well... I think he has a few disorders getting in the way of all his great basketball knowlege... lol.. demote Saunders to assistant(where he could do quite well with preparation) and move someone else (porter or cowens) into the Head coach slot for motivational and defensive purposes...

The only thing I can come up with is the zone defense.. which COULD work if the players buy into it.. However... if they only half A** the effort on the zone, its useless.

The only reason Saunders did well in Minne is cuz of Garnett

Re: Flip Saunders - Out of rope?

I am also befuddled at the coach. I keep saying to myself, maybe it is the players, maybe we are getting old, etc. But I always come back to no, it is the coaching.

1) He is not a good offensive coach. That is a myth. We have one of the worst offenses in the league for a non-lottery team.

2) The zone has some merit but we have degenerated little by little from Larry's teams to a soft defensive team that occasionally rises to do some shot-blocking. Our constant zoning is a mark of a lack of defensive approach to the game. Our zone has been plain soft.

3) He does not make good adjustments in a game. He does not go out to stop their key players when they get hot.

Still, I am always hoping....Joe must see something ...

Re: Flip Saunders - Out of rope?

What does any coach do well that was available when we picked up what was left over?
Fire the coach... fire the coach... or get an owner that will keep high level talent and players that will give high level effort with skills to score inside and defend...and a coach that can get a wining message across without alienating the players... and draft picks that aren't in the 20's... etc.

Some folks think the key to winning is play all the youngsters... that'll get us a trophy.

Is it even a remote possibility that this team is not talented enough?... naw... fire this coach so we can fire the next one.
