CB and Rip as All Stars; will it help or hurt in 2nd half of season??

Ok, Rip and Chauncey make their second straight appearance in the All Star game this year. As Detroit`s starting backcourt, that`s quite a feat to be selected by the coaches.

However, will this accomplishment take away from the goal of winning a championship? This being a contract year for CB, will it catupult him to seeking personal goals instead of team goals?

Or, will our starting guards take this as a challenge and take on the rest of the league with a chip on their shoulders, and prove that they are the best starting backcourt in the NBA.

I for one and anxious to see........

I think being in the allstar game will make them hungrier than ever for an NBA championship this year.

I don't see the big headedness that I saw last year when they were chosen for the all star game. Billups will definitely need to step up his game if he want the fat contract.

Speaking of the al star game. Heard Gil Arenas on sportstalk 980 this afternoon. John Thompson asked him about his feelings of having eddie jordan coaching the allstar game and Caron Butler also a member.

He commented that "now we will be able to dominate like the pistons did last year" and he went on to say something about his minutes this year.

This again was a personal jab at the Pistons for his playing time in the Allstar game.

Don't be surprised if the CB and Rip get very little playing time during the allstar game.

Wouldn`t it be funny if Eddie Jordan didn`t give him the minutes he is expecting. He would probably pout the remainder of the season.

Re: CB and Rip as All Stars; will it help or hurt in 2nd half of season??

We will see what happends. The East won last year.

Arenas makes a lot of incredibly dumb statements and I think this could be why the league is not propping him up so much.

He recently called out Lebran James for not taking the winning shot at the end of games when it was Lebrans clutch shot that beat his Wiz team in the playoffs last year.

It was not just the winning season last year on why 4 Pistons were in there, it was going 1-1 in the Finals the 2 previous seasons as well. Arenas strikes me as a player who does not respect much of anything, but I could be wrong.

Instead of darting from appearances to practices to meetings, Saunders will fly to Minneapolis to see family and be honored as part of the 1982 Big Ten championship team at Minnesota. He also won't have to divvy up playing time. That's always a hard part of any coach's job. Last year, Wizards star Gilbert Arenas left Houston angry with Saunders for not giving him more floor time.

"At least he didn't say he'd score 50 points against us," Saunders said.

On it's face, I'm not sure the statement was meant to be deragotory.

Was it a jab or a compliment? I didn't hear the statement and so I'm unsure of the context. I'm not certain he was knocking Detroit. After all, the Pistons DID dominate that game!

Armygirl it`s your fault for turning this into a Gilbert Arenas thread, anyway, I disagree Max. The league is giving Arenas huge props IMO.

It started last year, when he was named as a replacement in the All Star game. Then during the offseason, there wasn`t a basketball magazine that didn`t mention the egotistical Wiz star.

This year as he is amongst the top 3 scorers in the league, and voted a starter by the fans in this years All Star game.

His dumb statements aren`t helping him, however, his play in addition to the league loving his story (coming from a broken home, living out of a car etc.) will put him on a plateau just below Kobe, D-Wade, Lebron & T-Mac.....

Now back to this thread.........

Did it say as recognized Allstars they might get more favorable calls from the refs?
