NEW YORK, March 7, 2007 – The NBA announced today that Lindsey Hunter of the Detroit Pistons has been suspended without pay for 10 games for testing positive for phentermine, a substance banned by the NBA/NBPA Anti-Drug Program. Hunter’s suspension will begin with tonight’s game between the Detroit Pistons and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Phentermine is an amphetamine that was half of the (in)famous Fen-Phen combo drug. It's a CNS stimulant that's usually used to suppress appetite; I haven't heard of athlete doping problems with it, but of course that doesn't mean there aren't any.

I think we'll see some Delfino at point guard going into the future, now that we're fully aware of the limitations of Murray and Blalock at that position. But since we have Murray and Blalock and they're capable of playing 12 minutes a game if not exactly awe-inspiring, I doubt Dumars will sign anyone to a 10-day contract.

This is a deeply religious man... I doubt he was intentionally doping for performance boost... isn't that the stuff found in Tylenol?

Ok, so he went from totally ineffective to a 20-point outburst? Of course he was on drugs.

I guess Joe should have fought a little harder for a back up point guard before the trade deadline.

Blalock will probably be recalled to duty unless he gets Little Flip unglued from the bench.

Dang 10 games is alot for a substance that I've never even heard about. The basketball drug policy is so hush-hush and I've read a book a few years ago where it detailed how lots of the guys like to smoke pot and they are pretty tolerable about how many times you test for it before you get the boot. Uncle Cliffie was caught on that and Damon Stoudamire was arrested at the Tucson airport a few years ago and that was his 3rd time being caught with the herb. If this is a first-time offense for Lindsey that's a very harsh penalty but maybe it's considered to be much more a hard drug than pot. Lindsey can use the rest and he's a savvy veteran so maybe this is a blessing in disguise. Carlos picks up an additional 5-15 minutes per game and let SuperDupe get some minutes at small forward/2 guard over Flip Murray.

We actually need him for the CLE game. Hell, we need him for March. Sucky timing.
