it's time

for delfino to eat some of rips minutes. he's defending better and he's a legit 3 point threat. delfino needs five 3 point attempts a game instead of rasheed. rips missing free throws at the end of the game. he's forcing shots and he's doing his usual turnover machine. it's time for flip to stop just giving the starters minutes just based on being a starter. if someone is playing better they need to get the minutes increased.

Re: it's time

I was at the Spurs game, and I am all for giving Delfino more minutes, particularly while rip continues to feel beaten up and indignant. Delfino is a spark of energy off the bench and a great defender, and he was immediately recognized as such by the spurs fans behind me.
But we shouldn't ignore the fact that despite Rip's poor start and horrible clutch free throw shooting in that game (they were his only two foul shots in the game despite constantly getting pulled and bumped and tripped), he was 8-12 to Delfino's 1-4.

Re: it's time

I agree that Rip and Tayshaun need their minutes cut a bit (Chauncey as well). I don't think Delfino needs 5 three point attempts per game, but it'd be nice if he touched the ball at least once every few possessions. At this point, it's not uncommon for him to go 8-10 minutes without ever touching the ball outside of grabbing a rebound. He's on the opposite side of the floor from the ball on almost every play.

Also known as the "Tayshaun zone".

Tay only has one post up move, but it's more effective than Delfino trying to create off the dribble. He really doesn't have a lot of speed (and control at the same time) or a crossover to get separation for a pull up or drive.

If Delfino can develop one go-to move, he could be very decent offensively.

Re: it's time

Delfino has developed the three ball. Tay and Delfino can be on opposite sides to spread the floor.

I too am tired of the Sheed three ball. One or two a game is enough.

Rip needs to get back to the mid-range game period.

Re: it's time

I'm not in favor of any Piston taking 5+ shots from the arc per game. Delfino looks much better lately, but I think you may be overestimating his offensive potential.

Delfino is great on the break. Did you see him go coast to coast last night?

why do you say that?? have you seen him get 10 shots and look horrible on them?? what i do see is that delfino usually misses if he gets his shot off of a busted play. but when he gets his shot during the flow of the offense he's usually money. i'd just like for once he gets a chance to get extended minutes and some shots. if he shows off his 3 ball that will open up his driving game.

Re: it's time

I am all for Fino getting playing time, however, let`s face it, the players ahead of him are (Tay & Rip) a proven veteran and an all star. Tay and Rip have had bad games as well as good ones lately, yanking them because of a few bad outings or to cut their minutes IMO opinion is not wise.

Now, if Rip is hurting more than we know, then I say Fino should get more PT. I like Fino and he has played more this season than his previous two, but, I wouldn`t say he is ready to take anyone`s minutes based on performance. Fino has had his share of lapses on the court as well as every other Piston.

Flip must continue to give Fino some PT, and his performance during the playoffs and the remainder of this season will determine his value to this team going forward. I think he will be a valuable piece in the future.
