Lee is tough, especially his half-court shots. Makes them every time.

You mean the half court "put backs" he grabs.

Re: Joe D's Draft Record

dmc was a great pick. he is what we need for years to come. sheed is aging, dice is aging, dale davis has aged, jmax is too small, amir is a small forward. he's a big guy that can defend duncan, bosh, j. oneal, okafur, okur, kaman. he's the best defender out of all of those guys mentioned that makes him a bad pick. he's also an unselfish team player. he was perfect for the pistons and would be perfect for them to make a run at now during free agency. he's doing well in orlando even though he's put on weight to play out of position on the low blocks. dmc was not a bad pick.

Dudes, as unpopular as this is bball is right... DMC is gonna be a beast down low... he's still got his head up his arse on defensive assignments though.

Re: Joe D's Draft Record

Yup, DMC should be moved to the WE'LL NEVER KNOW HOW HE WOULD HAVE DONE IN A PISTONS UNIFORM Category.

I was all for the pick then, and still would have done the same now with what we knew then of course. But I would have picked Bosh had we known what we know now.

JMax is still up in the air. So is Amir.

Acker, well, he won't supplant Rip at the 2. And he won't be a point guard. I think he'd be a so-so bench player at best. Will Blalock should develop a shot first. Paulding is a memory.

I think Joe managed his picks OK. We would not have kept Okur. He wanted out.

It's when to put the kids into the pan that's taking longer than expected as the veterans are still there. Davis will go so that'll free up a spot for Amir. Where will we put our picks? Hunter's retiring?

The way I look at it, there is no spot for Acker here. Especially if we get good draft picks.

I absolutely believe that no matter who we picked, LB would have ruined them, and like Darko would have demanded a trade.

Imagine LB trying to force Bosh into a down low post up center and playing him behind Darvin. Imagine Carmello getting DNP after DNP because of his lack of D. And imagine D Wade complaining about only getting 15 minutes a game playing behind CB.

The only difference is we would have gotten more for the trade than we got with Darko.

Re: Joe D's Draft Record

I'm not sure we've touched on this before, but is a guy really a good draft choice if you have to use the #2 pick on him knowing full well that he isn't going to be able/allowed to contribute for at least 4 years or so?

I mean, even if Darko was on par with Wade, Mello, or Bosh right now, would it really have been worth it to wait this long?

I mean, even if you THOUGHT a player was going to be the next Jordan...is it worth the wait & the risk?

4 FREAKIN" years is a LONG time!

Re: Joe D's Draft Record

Didn't get passing on Mello but other than that Detroit's draft catastrophies pale compared to those of some other teams.

According to Hoopsanalyst the average length of the career of #2 picks is between seven and eight years. So yeah, if it takes over half your pick's career just to get into the game, then perhaps not the best possible choice.
