Some Non Piston Nicknames in China

Quote:
The NBA recently compiled a list of some players' nicknames in China, and, as one would imagine, a few get lost in translation.
For example, Carmelo Anthony is Tian Gua, which means "Sweet Melon." Dirk Nowitzki is known as the German Racecar, Amare Stoudemire is the Little Tyrant and Damon Stoudamire is the Little Flying Mouse

Re: Nicknames For Some Pistons in China

I liked Ron Harper's comments at the bottom:

Quote:
Pistons assistant coach Ron Harper, telling the Chicago Tribune that more players get injured now because they don't take basketball seriously enough: "These guys go to the beach all summer, chase girls, party, go to L.A. and Miami. They love the game not for the game but for what comes after the game -- the cars, the jewelry, the parties. We liked that, too, but we loved to play. It was our pride and joy. If you don't respect the game, it will come back to beat your butt."

Re: Nicknames For Some Pistons in China

I've never heard any of those, although the two they provide for the Pistons are more or less accurate.

I hate to imagine what would happen if Mr (?) Jahnke's NBA source got himself a Hànzì tattoo, though.

壞人 huài rén, bad person

That might be a little idiosyncratic, but it's satisfyingly vague.

In Taiwan,
We call Larry Brown as Bulan Ye, as for Brown Grand Fathter.

If the LB is Larry Bird, we call him Da niao, it means big bird.

For Chauncey, we use the pronounciation from English it means Gun Lizard.
For Rip, we call him Tie Men Ren, it means Iron Mask Man,
For Sheed, We call him Si Wa, it means river frog,
For Prince, We call him wang zi, it means prince

Does he write about the Pistons, is so fair enough, if not I stand by what I said since forum is about the Pistons?
