DraftExpress: Mock Draft

PISTONS: Pistons Mailbag

A trade involving Murray is the likeliest thing to happen with the Pistons by the trade deadline. He should be appealing to teams that can use a scoring guard who can handle both backcourt positions and he’s been squeezed out here by the rookies. Let me clear something up about the draft: I was told by members of the Pistons’ front office earlier this season that they would be getting Minnesota’s second-round pick in 2008, but now they have confirmed that, in fact, Minnesota has the right to defer passing on that pick – acquired when the Pistons sent Ronald Dupree to Minnesota after the 2005 season – until 2009. It’s likely Minnesota will hang on to the pick this summer, since it will almost certainly be picking first in the second round. That will give the Pistons three second-rounders in 2009 – Minnesota’s, their own and Toronto’s, the latter picked up in the Carlos Delfino trade that also sends a 2011 second-rounder to the Pistons.
We just have to hope they're still terrible after whatever top pick they get this year.

Now, this is interesting:

Flip Saunders is picking his spots for Amir, Elliott. The potential you keep hearing about with him is real, but he’s not as NBA ready right now as the players ahead of him in the frontcourt rotation. Amir will make spectacular plays but also struggles with some aspects of the game, particularly in his man-to-man defense where he can sometimes be overpowered. Keep in mind that he’s two years younger than Arron Afflalo.
So, Amir is not ready. Well, why won't Joe or Flip come out publicly and say that? I know they don't have to do that to pacify the fans, but the question is out there and many have already asked.

What? And kill the kid's confidence? That would be smart, just to appease a few disgruntled forumites.

We are not asking the kid to come in and start a string of all star game appearances. We want him to come in for 5-10 minutes every game and rebound, dunk some put backs and block/alter some shots. In the sporadic few minutes he has received; he has been able to do these things.

Is it asking too much to just make his appearances more consistent?

Looks like it is.

What confidence???? Do you think he is gaining confidence knowing his now behind Brezec and Hermann on the depth chart?? Not to mention that those two can't possibly know as much of Flip's playbook as AJ?

AJ really needs to work the weights and add 15 to 20 pounds of muscle. He needs to improve his footwork.

We most likely aren't going up or down in the standings unless Boston has a major injury to one of their big three.

It seems to me that there can be only good coming from letting AJ get 5 - 10 minutes a game.

You can't gain experience during practice.

Besides, all players have weaknesses and all have some skills. How much if anything is he going to hurt us in 5 - 10 minutes a game?

If we had a serious chance of passing Boston and someone like Brezec could help us do it then I can see playing him ahead of AJ. But the first is a long shot and the second is non existent.

I was all for keeping AJ on the bench at the beginning of the year because I wanted to see how our starters were performing. If you look at Dyess's performance lately it has fallen off. I don't believe he can carry the minutes we are giving him.

Maxey has improved a lot but he still can't rebound. I thought his rebounding might improve this year to where it was adequate. But it is not.

So things have changed from what I thought would be the situation and as I see it playing AJ 5 - 10 minutes a game is a win only situation.

A good thought. I would think that brining AJ in at around 7 min mark of the first quarter would put him in a position to learn where Sheed being vocal on defense could help, and he will learn the offensive schemes better, especially since he won't be counted upon to be a go-to guy. In addition, having the best starting 4 on the court with him can cover for his shortcomings.

Well then it is settled. Let the will of the forum be put into place starting tomorrow.

Well done, Fellas. I look forward to seeing how this helps us when we reach the play offs.

Hey, Buddah, could you, please deliver a message to Joe D. that changes have been approved and are in order?

Thank you.
