Re: Amir Johnson - Detroit Piston Tracker

Here is my case for why Amir should be our 4th big.

40 minute stats for Amir vs. Bresec:

Amir- 13pts/13reb/1.9ast/1.0stl/4.8blk
PBres- 9.7pts/8.5reb/1.8ast/1.2stl/0.6blk

Who plays bigger?

At this point, Amir has as many minutes as Stuckey (so I don't think it is too small of a sample size) and is 3rd on the team in production per minute behind Chauncey Billups and Rip Hamilton.

The secret weapon needs to be deployed.

Are these Brezec's Piston stats or Bobcat stats?

Pistons.

What I'm about to tell you may be shocking. I was actually doing him a huge favor by not revealing his Bobcat stats. ***spoiler warning*** if you are a Bresec fan, do not read the following:

Per 40 with Cha. Sample size = 20 games including 18 starts.

5.7pts/6.6reb/0.9ast/0.0stl/0.6blk.

So, in 267 minutes on the floor, mostly with Charlotte's starters, Primoz has a TOTAL of 6 assists, 0 steals, and 3 blocks.

What kind of hustle player goes 20 games without having a steal find him?

I'm not trying to hate on the dude, but Amir has eclipsed Primoz's season totals in multiple categories in 1 GT appearance.

Re: Amir Johnson - Detroit Piston Tracker

I think this issue was already brought up here. And we were wondering why oh why can't Flip find minutes for Amir. The only thing we've seen in the media is a brief note on Pistons.com saying that Flip doesn't think he's ready yet. It doesn't make any sense, but all we can do at this point is hope that he will become enlightened. The worst case scenario from the Amir's perspective would be signing Webber (not necessarily from the team's perspective). That will ensure that Amir doesn't get any playing time.

Oddly enough, though, he's averaging slightly more steals per 40 minutes with the Pistons than Amir is. Has joining the Pistons turned Primoz into a slow 7-foot version of Alvin Robertson?

Re: Amir Johnson - Detroit Piston Tracker

Here's probably the easiest way to get a handle on their production.

Total stats on the year.

Primoz
346 minutes/ 56 pts/ 61 rebs/10 ast/ 2 stl/ 4 blk

Amir
192 minutes/ 62 pts/ 61 rebs/ 10 ast/ 5 stl/ 22 blk

After doing some math, it appears that Amir blocks shot at 10 times the rate of Primoz.

In fairness to both of these guys, neither has played enough minutes to conclude much based soley on statistics.

Amir has played 10% of the total possible minutes. The same as Stuckey.

Bresec was a starter for Charlotte. He started 18 of 20 games before he was traded. If he were an NFL player, that would be the entire season + 2 playoff games.

Again, I don't even mind Bresec. It's just that it is starting to seem a little strange that Amir is producing and not getting rewarded for it. I personally like seeing everyone getting some PT at different points in the season so that we can fully evaluate them. If Bresec hadn't been given any minutes, I'd be wanted to see what he can do. Same with Herrmann.

But seeing a guy play can really give a sense of reality. Herrmann's dead-eye shooting turns into a guy who hits a 3 pointer and then misses his next 3, just like Hayes. Bresec's hustle and 7'1" frame turns into a guy who dives for a loose ball with a 40 point lead, but only has 2 steals on the year.

However, Amir just seems to back up the hype when he's out there. Whether it's grabbing a bunch of boards, getting easy buckets, or putting on a blocking exhibition, the guy is consistently effective. I know I'm preaching to the choir here, so I don't want to go on and on.

Maybe it's time for a t-shirt campaign or something.
