Well it is nice to see that we agree on something for a change. Lets try and keep it up.

This is from last summer.

In other Johnson news, A. Sherrod Blakely has an update on his official height:
Amir Johnson keeps on growing. Arnie Kander, Detroit’s strength and conditioning coach, said the 20-year-old is 6-foot-11 1/2. He was 6-9 in 2005 when the Pistons drafted him.
This is from last spring.

Pistons Recall D-League Sensation Amir Johnson

And you know why else Detroit has to be ecstatic? Because as good as he looks in that video above, he's since grown a full two inches -- he's now a 6-11 power forward in the mold of a young Jermaine O'Neal. Is your interest piqued?

I could not loacate a date on this one.

Re: Amir Johnson - Detroit Piston Tracker

As far as Johnson playing the 3 spot.

It looks like most of their data has him at the 3 spot when Herrman and Maxiell are in and when Maxiell and Bresec are in.

Also, for some reason, they have Tay at the 4 when Amir and Wallace are in there together.

I guess it just depends on who he guards and how he is used in the offense. Are you guys sure you would have noticed if they weren't running plays for him, whether or not he was standing around in the 3 or 4 spot in the offense?

Lee would have noticed.

This must give nightmares to AJ fans, because this is the only position he feels comfortable on court.

That leaves the #4..
And there goes JMax and Dyess.

There are no minutes available for AJ at this time.

1. He needs to continue to improve his man to man defense which he is already doing.

2. He needs to continue to get stronger.

If he can bulk up over the summer, he will get minutes at the #5 next year. That is what they are grooming him for.

Maxey at the #4....his natural position.
AJ at the #5...I doubt this will ever happen.
Tay at the #3????... Until JD makes a move to open this position, you will have no youth development. Not JD's personality. Trade the youth and move on.

That is the future... It may arrive, in part, within a month.

Right now, Johnson is clearly at his best in the open court, playing at a faster tempo. That’s a tough skills set for this team, because the Pistons are just as clearly at their best when they move the ball and make the defense play for most of 24 seconds every time down. The Pistons have not been a very effective team in transition. Rodney Stuckey is going to change some of that, but Johnson will have to get better in half-court situations to force his way into the rotation.

Which brings us to the other common mutation of the Amir question: Is he going to grow as impatient, and thus as disenchanted, with withering on the bench as Darko Milicic did and provoke a trade out of Detroit?

No one has seen a hint of that yet. He’s very much a wide-eyed kid who works hard every day and finds obvious joy at holding down a job doing what he loves best. Would he rather be playing? Of course. But he signed a new contract to stay in Detroit last summer knowing that Rasheed Wallace, Antonio McDyess and Jason Maxiell were all coming back. Everyone – from Joe Dumars and his staff to Flip Saunders and his assistants to Wallace and his playing peers – keeps telling him to work hard and the payoff will be his, and he keeps nodding his head and putting in the work. It’s a brand of patience Pistons fans would be wise to adopt.
PISTONS: Fast Track

It's a catch-22 of sorts. He needs the experience, but he doesn't know the nuances of the game well enough for Flip to trust him yet, apparently (I don't buy it). If he's not ready, keeping him on the bench won't get him ready.

I'd like to point out the part about Stuckey - seems that change of pace comes back to half-court sets and no production.

I noticed that too. Flip's turning Rodney into Chauncey Lite. We drafted Stuck to be a change of pace guard. That was Joe's vision. It does not appear to be Flip's, though.

Slightly OT: Is it me or are the players throwing out hints about PT and stuff to Flip? Example: Chauncey said in the post-game that the bench is forcing because they have a very small window of opportunity to make an impact (paraphrasing). I agree with that.

Anyone else notice that when the time out was called with about 1 minute left in the game, AJ got up thinking he was going to get in and Flipper sent Herrmann in instead.

That just about says it all as far as Flipper's view of AJ.

Sending Amir in with 50 seconds left would have been an embarrassment to Amir.

hasn't stopped him from doing it before.

Even in g time, Amir usually comes in last (after the 2 guys who just joined the freakin' team), and for only a few minutes.
