This is one series where Theo would be more effective, I think....

I completely agree. I am hoping that Amir feels out like Theo rather then KG as he gets older.

Re: Amir Johnson - Detroit Piston Tracker

The amazing thing to me was that when Sheed and Amir were both in the game, it was up to Amir to guard KG. In reality, Sheed is the only one on the team who can guard Garnett, and he would have to apply maximum effort and somehow avoid the ref's whistle.

Sheed started out on KG but Big Baby and Perkins were just backing AJ down into the paint. Sheed also had a couple of fouls so they figured that switching was a better match up. AJ got schooled by the vet on the old up and under move early but it was a good learning experience for him.

Sheed had 2 fouls. I believe that typically Sheed would be the one on KG.

Does anyone know how many points KG scored on Sheed?

Fantastic article in the FreeP on AJ, the bench situation, and Flip

Energy boost for Pistons: Make Amir Johnson a starter | Freep.com | Detroit Free Press

Quote:
They want more veteran stability off the bench, but they're forgetting that the best team is often the hungriest. They're forgetting that those who dare are often dancing with the championship trophy in June.
Keeping Antonio McDyess in the starting lineup is a mistake, because his greatest contribution to the Pistons' championship hopes is as the primary scoring option off the bench. He's struggling offensively, but finding consistency becomes more difficult as the fourth scoring option among the starters.

Why not make the steadily improving Amir Johnson a starter?

A little experimentation is worthwhile, because of all the title contenders, it's the Pistons who can least afford the status quo in the postseason this year.

What has playing it cautiously earned them the past two playoffs?
Coach Flip Saunders believes the principle objective in the closing weeks of the regular season is finding the right bench rotation, now that the team has added veterans Juan Dixon and Theo Ratliff. But those minutes must come at the expense of someone else, and it's likely they'll be taken from the youngsters Saunders apparently still can't trust at crucial moments in the playoffs.

If that's the Pistons' approach in the postseason, they should stop wasting everybody's time talking about the necessity of integrating the next generation of Pistons with the current, because it apparently doesn't matter that much.

It all falls on Flip.
Only part of it, definately worth the read

Finally a Detroit sports writer has the stones to question Flip Saunders. I expect Drew Sharp to turn up missing any day now just like Jimmy Hoffa did.

Good lookin' out Drew!

Re: Amir Johnson - Detroit Piston Tracker

Seems to be jumping to conclusions a bit in that article. Just because Dixon replaced Afflalo does not mean that Theo will replace Amir. It could be that Theo's mins will be taken from Dyess and Maxiel leaving Amir uneffected. That seems more likely given Amir's high upside although that DNP from the Utah game does weigh in.

We will see.

As far as the starting line being bored and uninspired. It can't be that bad if you are heading to a near 60 win season.
