There are so many positive things (setting picks, handling the ball, playing good D, boxing out so your teammate can get a rebound, etc.) that don't show up in the box score.

There are also so many negative things (not running the plays, not moving the ball, playing terrible defense, not communicating with teammates, etc.) that don't show up in the box score.

In the end, many people just use the stats that help their cause to justify their interests.
As I learned in a stats class in college.... stats can be made to say whatever you want them to say.

There a tool and only a tool

Re: Amir Johnson - Detroit Piston Tracker

Let's test that theory out.

Try to find some stats that show that Primoz Bresec should be the NBA's MVP this year.

That's why I prefer lying with words instead of stats. Much easier.

Re: Amir Johnson - Detroit Piston Tracker

By the way, Primoz now has 3 steals total this year, which matches the number of different uniforms he's worn. He's played in 45 games and gone steal-less in 43 of them. Somehow he got 2 in one game against Memphis (his single game career high). I reviewed the game tape and it appears as though Darko passed him the ball both times because he though he was a teammate. Those shouldn't count.

Re: Amir Johnson - Detroit Piston Tracker

Here's a stat to show the opposite side of the Lee saying AA needs mins....

were 3-1 in DNP CD's this year
were 1-0 when he plays less then 1 min

So i think he should play between 0 and 59 secs.... stats back me up

we would be an .800 team that would make us 5 games better then we are right now.....

(these arn't my views.... maybe , just showing what they can say)

Re: Amir Johnson - Detroit Piston Tracker

I think your sample size is too small. Maybe pick somewhere between 10-15 games and see how that works.

your missing the point.... i picked stats that fit a view.... i'm sure if i wanted to waste enough time i could show all sort of things that really arn't the case.

Stats don't tell the whole story, its only part of it.... and you have to sometimes trust your eyes and gutt

Re: Amir Johnson - Detroit Piston Tracker

Its funny. Someone will have a certain opinion and other people will say that they are looking at it thru rose colored glasses. Ok. Thats subjective. Then they get stats. Then people discount the stats saying that stats can prove anything.
You gotta trust your gut.

all that boils down to is my subjectivity is worth more to me than yours.
