Hunter retiring?

SI.com - Writers - Chris Mannix: Here's why Golden State has surprised the Mavericks - Monday April 30, 2007 1:34PM

Looks like this will be Lindsey Hunter's last hurrah in Detroit. Hunter, one of the genuine good guys in the NBA if not all of sports, has an offer on the table to join the Pistons front office after the season and says he is likely to take it. Hunter has been a valuable role player throughout his 14-year career. He averaged 9.0 points and 2.8 assists while collecting championship rings with the Lakers and Pistons. The NBA needs more players like Hunter and if he does choose to retire, he will be missed.

Perfect. We will get all the valuable intangibles, without those cumbersome tangibles.

I like the timing of this. He can still give us something... barely. But next year we'll have one more spot open for a guy like Acker.

Simply amazing that our own writers who spend everyday with these guys can't ask Lindsey this simple question... nooo we need SI to come up with this.
Good for Lindsey... now Lee can hate on someone else.

Damn those tangibles. Michael Jordan would've been a nobody without them.

Not true, Merc. Every front-office decision will somehow be Lindsey's fault.

Re: Hunter retiring?

I thought this was already the case. I must have been confused.

Not sure I follow ya right... but L.H. signed a two year deal this past summer.... maybe that was the agreement all along to have his 2nd year used upstairs.

Re: Hunter retiring?

I wonder how that works cap-wise.

Re: Hunter retiring?

tough call... the CBA clearly states that player/coaches count on the cap... but no mention about a player using their contract for management.... I'm sure that he could simply retire (voiding his contract)... and they could write him a deal for his new duties.
