Wednesday Practice Notes - May 2nd 2007

PISTONS: Moot Point

Quote:
The transformation will really be complete the first time Big Ben puts a Piston parallel to the hardwood and stands over him with a menacing glare beneath his trademark imposing Afro.

It just won’t be Rip Hamilton. Wallace joked in Chicago on Tuesday that he made Hamilton the league’s premier mid-range jump shooter because “when I was with Detroit and he was with Washington, his first six layup attempts, I threw ’em.”

Hamilton’s counter on Wednesday: “He did block my shot five times, but I told him after the fifth time, ‘You will never block my shot again.’ And he hasn’t blocked it since, so I’m coming right at him. I know for a fact he ain’t gonna block none of my shots.”

Chicago is a much bigger media market, and that's reflected in the horde of like 30-40 reporters, cameramen, etc. that pounce every practice. Some, who shall remain nameless, are really amusing me with their utter ignorance of the Pistons. A lot of their questions to the Bulls players and coaches are based on false premises.

Among them:

1) Rip Hamilton is some trash-talking, spiteful maniac

2) somehow Ben Wallace is like a dolphin, and only he can understand the frequency of the plays the Pistons are running

3) that the Pistons losing 3 of 4 regular season games (ahem, please check the box scores to see which games Chauncey Billups played in...) equals an omen for another Bulls series smackdown a la Miami.
Hardy har har, Ben is a dolphin!

You also heard Andres Nocioni pull a guaransheed -- saying the Bulls would win in seven. The Pistons mostly laughed that off. "We'll see," Antonio McDyess said.

The crazy thing is, Hamilton might be the most hated Piston in Chicagoland. The radio stations there are killing him. They are calling him a coward because he plays chippy then hides behind his mask. They are comparing him to a European hockey player who wears a visor. They are on Hamilton because of his confrontation with Tyrus Thomas earlier this season and his run-ins with Scott Skiles. The Chicago media was pressing this point to the Bulls players on Wednesday (according to my colleague Joanne Gerstner who is covering the Bulls right now). It took Ben Wallace to stand up and set the record straight. When they asked if Hamilton was the loudest trash talker on the Pistons, Ben said, "You know, Rasheed still plays on that team."
GUARANOCIONI!

I second this opinion. I'd love to see that.

I was just lamenting the loss of the Pacers rivalry the other day, but this is much, much better. The Bulls are back, baby!

I can't wait for the games to start!

They are delusional. I'll be absolutely shocked if this doesn't go 6.

They are 1 year away from being 'ready' and we are at least 1 year (and a couple of bad moves) away from being the 89-90 Celtics AKA
