Tom Izzo for next coach

OK, Flip is gone.

Let's back up the dump truck full of cash and give him a $15 mill buyout kicker if he's fired to assure him it's a real commitment.

It's time, and as a much bigger Spartan hoops fan than I am a Pistons fan...

I'm still willing to make that sacrifice.

Flip is not going anywhere, just the same as AJ won't see a minute of the court time in these playoffs. Izzo is staying in Spartan land. End of story.

If they lose Saturday.

(small if).

He is gone, he absolutely has to be.

Why does he? Maybe the players just don't have it anymore? Also, Joe seems to like Flip. It was never like this with Cola or LB.

Yeah, we weren't vastly underachieving, we were beating higher seeded teams and killing 'one man shows'.

Re: Tom Izzo for next coach

Letting one player score 25 straight points without making an adjustment to at least force someone else to make a layup or dunk? Well, it's like watching a NFL team lose a 24 point lead at halftime to the same running play time after time after time after time...

I seriously doubt that having a coach get burned by the same play without making adjustments is OK with Joe. There is no excuse for a double team, EVERY time, until 3 on 4 doesn't work. Flip is a lousy excuse for a game coach. X's and O's are just not enough. For all of his warts LB understood adjustments. Flip clearly does not, and it's no longer OK to let it go.

I'll use Terry Foster's blog for the response. I agree with what he says and he's quite a bit more concise than I would've been:
Quote:
Now I already know what you are thinking. Why did the Pistons not do more to try to stop him? What did you want them to do, hit him in the head with a bowling ball? The Pistons switched up defenses so many times it would take an hour to explain what they did.
They played man to man and zone. They put Tayshaun Prince, Rip Hamilton, Chauncey Billups, Lindsey Hunter, Carlos Delfino, Rasheed Wallace and Jason Maxiell on him. Am I forgetting anybody?
He simply was in attack mode and shreaded the Pistons just as he would anybody on this night.
Of course I am going to attack your next gripe. Did the officials pave the way for him to achieve greatness?
There were questionable calls. I question the Maxiell hip check they called on the young Piston. There were some times when he might not have been touched and he did flip Billups out the way just before the hip check.
However, I've got news for you. Super stars get calls. This rule is as old as the NBA. Larry Bird, Dr. J., Magic Johnson, Dwyane Wade, Isiah Thomas and Michael Jordan all got calls. Officials give them the benefit of the doubt.
The Pistons did bang him around a bit and certainly James will feel it when he wakes up this morning.

That's not an answer. That's an excuse. The double team at the halfcourt worked twice in OT. Play the rest of the team 3 on 4 if you have to. Put three players in front of him and let someone dunk it. But 25 in a row can be prevented.

Well, sometimes you eat the bar and sometimes...
There will be some games where you're not going to be able to stop the guy no matter what you do. This is actually the only game where LBJ managed to dominate like this. If you recall game 2 of the finals a few years back, Pistons couldn't stop Kobe in the overtime loss. And at that time they were hungry and had younger Ben.

Re: Tom Izzo for next coach

Izzo will stay where he is, because Joe's not going to blow things up so he can hand the pieces to a rookie coach in the NBA. But you can't rule out Flip's firing if the Pistons lose. Look at history. Joe makes moves if you can't get it done in the playoffs, sentiment be damned. Losing to a team that's not the eventual champ would be a serious step back.
