NBA Draft - defense or offense?

I always assumed the Pistons need to get the best offensive player available when drafting, but I started thinking to myself the REAL reasons the Pistons have gone out in the ECF two years in a row.

Basically, the Pistons have gotten beat single handedly by Wade and James. If we had someone like a Bruce Bowen to guard and shut those guys down we might have gotten past them. I know Prince is supposed to be an above average defender, but he pretty much got owned by both of these guys the past two years. So maybe the Pistons should try drafting the best defensive player available in the draft so come playoff time they can put him in the lineup for Prince and lockdown guys like "James" and "Wade". Of course the drafted player should still have an offensive game, but I just think whoever the Pistons draft NEEDS TO PLAY DEFENSE. What do you guys think about this? Maybe the Pistons should trade for Bruce Bowen? As dirty as he is he wouldn't let James dunk on him in the final seconds of Game 5.

Add no new youth. Use the 5 young players we currently have.
Trade all 3 picks with a starter to get good younger starter.

Tay did shut down McGrady and Kobe when we had Carlisle and Brown. Now that we have Flip Tay has got owned by Wade and LeBron. I think it has to do with the team's approach to defense than their ability to play defense.

Besides Chris Webber the Pistons lineup is all above average defenders.

Re: NBA Draft - defense or offense?

I have every condfidence that any pick Joe D gets will play on both sides of the floor. The problem is the team/ coaching philosophy. Too much is made of the new rules and the demise of defense.
