Dumars: No reason to remove Saunders as coach

ESPN - No flip-flop in Detroit: Pistons stick with Saunders - NBA

Quote:
The Detroit Pistons have no plans to fire coach Flip Saunders despite disappointing endings the past two seasons.
"Just because we haven't gotten to the [NBA] Finals, it doesn't mean Flip has done a bad job," Joe Dumars, president of basketball operations Dumars said Monday.
Dumars added that the team doesn't plan drastic changes this offseason.
"We don't have a fire sale going on," Dumars said.

Is he being intentionally obtuse or is he actually an overrated GM?

It all depends on how you look at it. There is only one team in the league that managed to achieve more in the past 5 years. At the same time Pistons could've achieved more, their draft picks are, at best, came out average, and there is no clear leadership in the organization (other than moody Davidson).

No one is suggesting a fire sale, Joe. Just some changes to reduce the chances of another playoff flame-out.

Also, what I have noticed is that for some reason Joe always sounds very defensive about the team and the organization. It's like he is insecure for some reason. Looks a little strange to me.

I'm serious about him being intentionally obtuse.

It's obvious that Sheed and Flip cannot co-exist. I love Sheed but I am willing to see him go if it means Saunders goes with him.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result. Sounds like status quo at the Palace.

Kids will sit. Same ol' Roster. Same ol' Coach.

I always think back to when folks at the News forum had a chance to send in questions to Joe Dumars. He ended up answering many of our questions with double talk BS (obtuse?) answers that were really an insult to anyone who asked a question.

I think he just isn't going to say anything credible that would tip his hand one way or another.

I agree. It's like doing this over and over again. Who likes to do that?

Joe D is on drugs . . .

or he was never that good in the 1st place.

I can't understand how Dumars could watch this team against Cleveland and decide not to make drastic changes. The Eastern Conference is so bad this year that it's absurd that we didn't make the finals, especially if Joe considers the Pistons to be contenders.

Edit: I still have some faith in Joe, but it has been a while since any of his moves impressed me.
