Honest answer fellas.

If JMax was on the opposing team, how many of us would be yelling at Flip to have ANY of our bigs to post him up... all night long.

I love JMax, but realistically, a 6'6 PF is the ultimate small ball player, and we need to be moving away from that.

So all I'm saying is that JMax is probably headed for a life of chasing the 6th man of the year award, which isn't a bad thing to be.

Varejao did next to nothing against us in an Isolation situation. He got freebies when our bigs had to help on Lebron's pick and roll.

Varejao hurt us on both ends, and yes he's very limited offensively, so if he can't be contained, what about better PF's(which is most of the league, lol).

I just think the bigger issue is size. Either we're making a commitment to stay in the size game, or we're going back to small ball.

I prefer to be NBA size as a starter in that position. Coming off the bench, JMax could work out.

Such was said about Ben once. But like Ben, Maxiell has extra long reach for his height. And like Ben, Maxiell, thru experience, can learn to play taller players well. How much time? It took Ben many years of playing heavy minutes in this league to get where he is, especially as to being a one on one defender against the premier bigs in this league. Meanwhile, here is something Maxiell can do very effectively that Ben could not do: Sometimes the best defense is to get someone in foul trouble. Remember the phrase, used so many times in reference to JMAX-you got to foul him to stop him.

Little, yes, but he hit some key buckets against us, when guarded. (About 7 in the series)

I will strongly disagree. I believe JMAX is a far better player vs. Chris Webber, and lightyears ahead of Mohammed, who both got minutes ahead of him at times last season. Mohammed, all year long, got like 3 buckets in the post when guarded by an opposing center. Webber could not get over to defend. These players had severe deficits, but they still played. JMAX is short for a 4. He is a tad slow for a 3. But so what, nobody is perfect. When you add up all the things he can do, it comes up to a pretty good sum. Excellent helpout D. Strong individual interior defense against anyone even approximately his size. A strong inside scorer. And, as many do not know, Maxiell has a fine midrange jumper. (Needs to just play, to get into rythm out there, and watch out.)

You ask would I have our players attack JMAX. With Sheed, of course. Not many in this league can stop Sheed when he puts his mind to it. Dyess inside against JMAX-no. Webber-no.

Re: Thoughts on Jmax

Lee, good to see you over here.

Your question is a bit different. Do I think JMax is better than Webber & Nazr(pause while laughing)... of course he is!!!

Unfortunately he can only dominate them in practice. I repeat, I think he's good to come off the bench, I just don't think he has a future here as a starter.

Honestly, I expect Amir to beat JMAX out as a starter. And I have not seen Samb yet either. But, I also do not think for a moment the battle is over. JMAX has a ton of potential, is a lot stronger than the other two players I just mentioned, and may be a better fit along side Sheed for quite some time. (Until either Samb or Amir finish filling out.)

I don't think that JMax shares Big Ben's zeal for defense. Not many do. Big Ben has never had a offensive game so to stay in the league and play he had to find a niche. He found it with rebounding and defense. JMax on the other hand is developing a nice offensive game. He has the makings of a face up jumper. His post game is looking pretty good and he can take it to the hole.

I don't ever see JMax becoming the defensive monster that Big Ben was. But then how many guys over the last 10 years have been on Big Ben's defensive level especially when Big Ben was in his peak years? I can't think of any right now.
