Re: Amir signing is being delayed

Here's from Jahnke:
Quote:
By evening, no word had been released on third-year forward Amir Johnson, a restricted free agent. The Pistons want to keep Johnson, who has yet to receive major minutes in the NBA but is penciled in as a 15-minute role player next season.
No other teams were known to be vying for Johnson, and Dumars had said he planned to match any offer, within reason.
Johnson's agent, Bill Duffy, was in Las Vegas, where the Pistons are playing summer league ball, and he and Dumars planned to sit and talk during the team's 6 p.m. game.
Negotiations opened with a qualifying offer mandated by the league's collective bargaining agreement to be last year's salary plus 125%. Johnson made about $664,000 last season.
No doubt, though, Duffy will push for a more lucrative contract, given the Pistons' desire to give Johnson a more meaningful role this season.
It's also thought that Johnson's camp will push for a three-year deal, while the Pistons would love to lock him up for five.
Johnson, who turned 20 in May, was the 56th overall pick in the 2005 draft. He has impressed the Pistons' brass with his athleticism as well as his near 7-foot size.
It's official: Mr. Big Shot re-ups

Re: Amir signing is being delayed

Krista's CBA information is incorrect. The Qualifying Offer was for the higher of 125% of last year's salary (as stated) or the minimum for next season +$175,000.

It was for the latter, not the former.

$945,610 instead of $830,261.

I hope Amir gets more $$$$$ as a result of this. Because then it'll be tougher for Flip to keep him sitting on the bench. Davidson: "Flip is not a good person if he does not play a young man that I'm paying $4 million a year."

Roscoe, they don't know the cap. However, the main problem is to get him signed. I don't think these numbers mean a whole lot since the contract is for a lot more money. These are just technicalities.

Re: Amir signing is being delayed

It sounds like all Joe has to do is give in to their 3-year demand and it is a done deal.

So, it's worth a shot to try to negotiate another year or two.
