For next year, first thing is Flip must be fired. We now need to get playing time for several young guys, something Flip Saunders is totally incapable of doing. If Dumars and Davidson are listenng to promises to the contrary from Flip, shame on them. We need to get JMAX, Stuckey, and Amir playing time, as well as Afflalo most likely. Maybe even Samb. The time is now to act. Get a coach.
I love Amir, I think he could be a special player, he dominated the D-League like it has never been dominated before, he showed brilliant flashes in the couple games he played...

Amir Johnson would not have made a big impact last season. Certainly wouldn't have gotten us past the Cavs, and would have made zero impact against the Spurs.

Great Contract btw, we're basically paying him like the 1.5 overall draft pick: less than Oden, more than Durant, but more adjusted to the NBA game and more professional conditioning and coaching. He, Stuckey, Spellcheck, and Maxiell are going to play this year. Or Flip will be fired. Joe D is probably sick of being second guessed for the Darko pick, considering Larry Brown and Flip had a huge hand in ruining him in Detroit. I'm sure a guy as competitive and prideful as Joe is will not let that happen again.

McCoskey says that the contract is for $10.8 mil at $3.6 mil per season and not $12.

Pistons sign Amir Johnson

Quote:
Bill Duffy, Johnson's agent, said as many as five teams showed interest, but on Thursday, Johnson agreed to a three-year, $10.8 million deal to remain with the Pistons. The deal will pay him $3.6 million per season.
"To attract such a high level of attention for a player who's had so little visibility was amazing," Duffy said. "But it shows how highly he is regarded as a player of the future."
When it came down to it, Johnson wanted to stay with the Pistons.
"He is ecstatic," Duffy said. "Detroit is the team that drafted him and Joe Dumars has personally mentored him and supervised his development. He's just very comfortable there. It's what I call a win-win."
Dumars was so intent on keeping Johnson, a restricted free agent, that he made it clear throughout the league that he was going to match any offer.

Looks like Pistons want him at the PF though. I wonder if they're contemplating JMax backing up Tay some?

Good for him and good for Joe. Amir has to feel like he won the lottery today...

So, this season we will have the equivalent of 3 first round picks in the rotation. As long as they get the consistent minutes that Joe has promised, this is indeed an infusion of the energy and athleticism that Joe described right after the season ended.

I hope he puts on another 20 pounds before the season starts and at least scrimmages tomorrow and plays in Vegas with his new teammates on Saturday.

Do we even know his weight and height at this point?

Re: Pistons, forward Johnson agree to 3-year deal

I agree with Lee here. If we could be so adamant about Amir's ability that we were willing to negotiate for days on a 5 vs. 3 year contract, then why couldn't he have helped us last year in his 2nd NBA season? We were trying to save $ by not playing him. We were up 2-0 on the Cavs, so I think it is conceivable to think that another player like Amir could have put us over the hump.

Still, I am glad we have him signed up and I'm looking forward to the best of both Worlds this coming season (experience and youth).

Stuckey, Afflalo, and Mejia seem like they were chosen because of their poise, maturity level, and drive. These are qualities you value over potential when you are looking for rookies to contribute right away.

I believe Amir and JMAX will see lots of time out there as a pair of forwards. Just who is the small forward does not matter. Either way, Tay should get plenty of rest this season. If the season starts out wrong in this respect, if Flip is still overplaying Tay, then Flip must be let go. The earlier the better if he keeps his nonsense up.
