Of course you're right.....that's why I stated 210-220......instead of just stating 210. Like you say, I gave him credit for a few extra growth pounds.

Keith Langlois has an article about Amir's signing at Pistons.com. There's not much new here, but it's nice to see it's offical.
Quote:
“We are pleased to have reached an agreement with Amir Johnson,” said Dumars. “Amir is a talented young player that we look forward to having on the roster as we continue to shape our franchise for next season and the future.”

This is 9 months old so he might be even bigger now. In any case it looks like PF will be his position not SF!!

Last week I mentioned Amir Johnson’s summer growth spurt, predicting he’ll eventually prove to be an extreme mismatch at the small forward spot. Well, scratch that: after Johnson added two and a half inches and 20 pounds onto his lanky frame, the coaching staff has decided to move him back to power forward. From the Krista Jahnke in the Detroit Free Press:
“That’s what I’ve been playing all my life,” Johnson said. “All through high school, all through little league. Four is my position I know real well.”
Even at the four, Johnson will likely be taller than most of his defenders, but he’ll have to continue filling out his frame if he’s going to have any success banging down low. Don’t expect it to happen overnight, though; some guys just aren’t build for huge muscles. We’ve seen it with Rip Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince, and Flip Saunders has seen it with another player he used to coach:
“That’s kind of how Garnett was,” Saunders said, comparing him to superstar Kevin Garnett, whom he coached for nearly 10 years. “We tried like heck to do everything we could (to bulk him up), but Amir’s probably the same way. The way his frame is, no matter what you do, it’s going to come by natural. Usually, that’s the best way. Your body kind of grows with how you’re playing.”
More important than Johnson gaining weight, in my eyes, at least, is that he retains his freakish jumping ability. As long as he has that, the rebounds and blocks will be there.

Look,
Sheed is a true 7 footer. The moment I see Amir look Sheed anywhere near in the eyes, I'll believe he's 6'11". But for now, he's still looking up, and he's still 6'9".

BTW, if Webber and Davis bail, we'll only have 2 players over 6'9" (excepting Saimb makes the roster).

With Flip as the coach, sure, Amir might not help rest Prince. But that would be because he is a horrid coach, not because it makes any sense at all. Actually, I don't believe for a moment that Flip will fail to play Amir and JMAX as a pair of forwards, since he already has, in Amir's 4 games at the end of the season. With Amir and JMAX in the game, it just does not matter one bit who is playing small forward, and who is playing power forward. Tay will be resting in any case, which is what matters.

I really don't understand that statement at all. His career winning percentage as an NBA coach is .588. Sloan's is only .600. He never had any talent at Minn. except KG and one year when he would have gotten to the finals if Cassell hadn't gotten hurt.

Flip Saunders Coaching Record - Basketball-Reference.com

Yes his playoff record isn't that good by even Sloan's playoff record is under .500

Jerry Sloan Coaching Record - Basketball-Reference.com

Neither one has won a ring and Sloan had two HOF guys playing together for him for over a decade.

So if Flip is horrible Sloan by his record is not much better than horrible.

Flip struggled deep in the playoffs. But his teams are always having good regular seasons. He's a decent enough coach. He has his issues, as do many other coaches. He's not a saint, he's not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. But with enough help and, I guess micromanagement, he may be more successful.

What was the last time you saw Amir and Sheed together?

Yeah, last time I was at the game watching Amir shoot (And I was right down on the floor first row midcourt before the game) I would guess he was an inch shorter vs. Sheed.

Re: Pistons, forward Johnson agree to 3-year deal

I wrote an e-mail to McCoskey. He responded that Amir was 6' 11 1/2" in the beginning of the last season.
