Smile Sammy Mejia - Detroit Piston Tracker

I like this guys game a lot.

I saw 4 of the 5 SL games and Mejia was a second round steal

Nice outside shot
Some Bronx playground moves, with the mustard staying on the hot dog.
Good rebounder for his size
Aggressive
Can play the point in an emergency
Good defender

I like his game better than Delfinos!!

I think he has a real shot to make the final cut.

I second that and raise you two Buddah, Mejia can flat out ball.

Steal of the second round for sure, could be a gil arenas, rodman type steal.

I think he will definitely make the squad hands down.

I agree 100%

The first thing that impressed me about him is how comfortable he is handling the ball. I forgot that I wasn't looking at a point guard a few times.

Definitely a potential bigtime steal.

I am not exactly sure about that, but he could be a contributor. When the trio of Stuckey Afflalo and Mejia was on the court they could defensively suffocate the opposition during the SL and they could also regularly score. That's how they won games in the 4th quarter.

Re: Sammy Mejia - Detroit Piston Tracker

High motor players are always impressive. Always.

Even if they lack the measurables or skill, we're socialized to recognize effort as a positive.

I think this may have been part of the problem with Darko and Delfino. They had more skill and great measurables, but neither is really a high energy player. Sort of like Tay.

We can learn to appreciate both, but in short minutes, it's easier to make an impact running around like a berserker than waiting for the sweet play to develop or execute.

Michael Curry said there's always room on the team for a guard that rebounds, so I'm guessing Mejia has made an excellent impression on Curry during Summer League play.

Gilbert Arenas? Rodman? Wow.

Mejia played well, but he played well because he understands who he is. He's a low ceiling make few mistakes guy. He does everything fairly well and avoids doing bad things. He might make it right now as a backup SF for us because we've got no one else, but his career will more closely resemble Ron Dupree's than all-stars. And there's nothing wrong with that. That's not a bad pick at the end of the draft.

Re: Sammy Mejia - Detroit Piston Tracker

I think Mejia can actually get PT as oppossed to sitting on the bench most of the season like Dupree.... I say make room for him of the 15 man squad, let him hang and practice with our vets, and send him to the D for some skills enhancement and give him time to develop in the states instead of letting him get lost in Barcelona somewhere...

My official nickname for him to Samjia (sammy mejia) in honor the AI singer who wasn't supposed to be there but with fan support, and minor skills hung in there with the real singers for awhile. In our case however he eventually prevails and get major pt by next year.

Sanjaya?... as an Indian American i just hope he has talent and isnt just a fan favorite... fan favorites dont win games, they sell seats (though i dont think the Pistons have a problem with that), but they dont win games.
