Pistons Roster

As of this moment in time the Pistons roster is unique among all NBA teams.

They have the only roster composed of 100% black players. Excuse me, I would have said African American except I don't believe that Cheikh is American.

Just an observation.

Thought this might be interesting.

It's all Joe's fault.

Re: Pistons Roster

I think NBA fans have become indifferent to race. I think in 2007 it doesn't even creep into the minds of most fans.

Not like the old days...

Re: Pistons Roster

I guess now we know why Laimbs can't be a coach in Pistons organization.

Re: Pistons Roster

I think Joe, more than any other GM in the NBA is picking based on comfort with a player, instead of talent.

He wants guys he can relate to, and whom he thinks has the right "DNA"

There is no better example than the 2005 draft. Between Travis Diener, David Lee, Linas Kleiza, and Jason Maxiell; Joe picked Max.

Talent wise, David Lee was probably the best pick; need wise, Kleiza, with his outside shooting, would have fit Flip's offense a lot better than Delfino. And Diener, while talently challenged, would have filled our need for a backup PG.

There was no need for JMax, an undersized power forward, on a team with Sheed, Ben, Dice, and Darko. But, he was a Joe player. The same with Affalo. No need for him on the team, but he is a Joe player.

Joe isn't picking players because they are black, he's picking guys he can relate to, and whom he thinks has the same drive as him; which is turning out to be guys from the same background.

Have to believe though, that if JMax wasn't in the draft, Joe would have drafted David Lee.

Re: Pistons Roster

David Lee is the poster child for SLEEPER. Hindsight 20/20 he was one of the best PF's in the draft and will be very coveted when he becomes a FA. David Lee is really evidence of how GREAT Zeke is at the draft more than some ineptness concerning Joe in the draft. For all of Zekes coaching and GM screw-ups he's always on cue on draft night.
