If I were a coach I'd be pissed if one of my players starts spouting off about other players or teams in the media.

You see it so often in sports where a guy will start trash talking, the other team uses it as extra motivation, and more often than not, the guy that did the talking has a poor game.

The best example I can think of was Chad Johnson of the Bengals sending Pepto Bismol to the other teams' DB's because he was going to make them sick. Johnson ended up having a horrible game.

Just shut up and play. Don't celebrate excessively when you're up, don't be a whinner when you're down and NEVER give the other team any extra motivation by running your mouth in the media.

Popvich's Spurs are a great example of a team that gives its opponents loads of respect and doesn't say stupid crap. I have total respect for those guys.

Typical Pierce

Very talented player, but like his old running mate in Boston, 'Toine, more interested in individual accolades than his team's success.

He has more complimentary things to say in today's Boston Herald ... but check out the little comment at the end:

Quote:
.... “When you go into Phoenix, Sacramento and Portland and win, that brings your confidence up,” Pierce said. “It’s still early, but they’re already off to a great start. The only way they can get better at this point is to win a championship, but I think they really are better than when we played them.

“That’s why I don’t know how much you can use our last game against them as a test. Some teams get better, and go on a roll. That’s why they’re not the same team.”

The reason, according to Pierce, lies in the way Hamilton and Chauncey Billups have taken off under coach Flip Saunders’ new system.

....“I don’t know if (Hamilton) is a better player now, but the way Flip Saunders has them playing, I think that they’re all playing better,” Pierce said. “I think Larry Brown held them back. I’ve played with Chauncey Billups since high school, and he’s playing the way now that I always knew he could play.

Much better, but I still hope Prince embarasses him.
