memo vs darko

I really liked Memo but he had to go if it meant we would lose Sheed. I felt bad that he would get yelled at for shooting deep but Sheed had the green light. Imo that was just a double standard that Larry had. Larry was trying to get memo to take it to the rim strong. If Memo would lay it in he would get yelled at for not dunking. If he would dunk with 1 hand he would get yelled at for not using 2 just stupid stuff like that bothered me about Larry. As for people saying that Darko won’t be as good as memo only time will tell but I think the kid will be solid when he gets his chance.

Even this year he only has 7 rebounds in the 34 minutes he has played, so he is obviously not improving in that area.

Unless Darko can develop into an excellent outside shooter his NBA career will be relegated to a journeyman type career, because he will never become good enough in the low post to start for anyone at the #5 slot.

So let me get this straight when Darko is out there in garbage time he is suppose to pull down rebounds from all the crazy shots that get taken? Long rebounds are hard for Ben to get sometimes (take for example the Portland game Ben got a hand on a long rebound but couldn’t pull it in)

As a fan of the Pistons I have to look at Darko from a different point of view than most other kids drafted. He was drafted for the future. Yes there were other big men out there for us to take heck there were smaller guys to take but almost anyone who would have got drafted would have been riding the pine. If we got wade I can guarantee he would have played behind rip and probably came off the bench after hunter. Bosh would have still played behind memo sheed Ben and now dice. Also consider if we had drafted a Carmelo how much of a distraction he would have been. He would have wanted his minutes which means Tay would not get half the pt he gets now and sure he needs a breather but how good would Tay be only playing 20 minuets a game? Darko is being brought along the way any player picked would have been.

As far as I am concerned we got a #2 pick (and we could have traded it for other picks a couple of late first rounders or something) and didn’t quite know how to use it because of how strong the team already was. How many playoff teams land a #2 pick not many.

memo vs. darko

i love memo as a player i really wish we could have kept him. but to compare the two just isn't a good comparison. it's just the system the guys are playing in. numbers wise darko will probably never put up the same numbers as memo just because he plays for the pistons. rasheed is only putting up 10 points a game that doesn't mean memo is better.

it's really too early at this point to say if we made the right choice. the choice actually was never memo or darko. but right now it's hard to say because darko still hasn't had the chance to play. he's also too unselfish right now offensively. look at tay he's been playing for a few years and is just starting to be aggressive offensively. i still say darko is better though because he's a defensive presence. the one time he was allowed to log semi major minutes he led the league in blocked shots. he isn't a natural rebounder but specialist shot blockers don't usually grab too many rebounds anyway. the weakside defender gets lots of boards off darko's alterations and shot blocking usually leaves you out of position for boards. darko hasn't learned yet when to block and when to put a hand up and just box out it will come.

Not to start a war here, but:

If we want Darko to start getting more consistant, we need to start taking minutes away from Dyess. Dyess hasn't been incredibly impressive this season, but we know what he can do. Darko is still a question mark.

Unless we want to go into the playoffs and run into the same crap we did last year (short on bigs), Darko needs to play.

Then, maybe we can have this discussion comparing Darko to Memo.

Easy choice.

Although as previously mentioned, "Darko or Memo" was never an option...

..I would have to say that right now there really is no debate.

Regardless of the rational, Darko still hasn't had meaningful minutes.
Memo is playing like he is one of the top 25 players in the league right now. Very impressive. Sure these stats are inflated due to the loss of Boozer and Krilenko but many other nba allstar hopefuls have been in a similar situation and have not responded with such awe-inspiring numbers. To mention Darko with Memo at this point is to take away from how amazing Memo has been the pass couple of weeks.

Darko will have his time. When he is finally in a position to put his full game on display then we can start the Darko vs Memo discussions. Until then, just sit back and watch our former Piston blossum to something special. Good job Memo!

Yeah, we probably should have been able to keep Mike James, but with Memo, we were in the same situation that Washington was with Arenas, except Memo hadnt really proven himself yet.

But it is nice to see Memo doing well, you cant blame him for taking that kind of cash, and hopefully Darko gets his game going well enough that Memo leaving doesnt matter.
