Smile New "All World Hoops League"

Okay, you have been appointed President of Basketball Operations for the Detroit Hybrids a new franchise in the All World Hoops League

Your first job in to stock your team with talented and exciting players who will lead the Hybrids to the World Hoops Title.

Do to Detroit's horrible performance this year against the Japanese automakers the Hybrids get the first pick in the new league's draft.

The draft rules of the All World Hoops League are unique.

In each round each team gets to select one player from only two available as provided by the voting of "the casual internet fan"

Due to the efforts of ace world hacker "Dearborn Danny" Hybrid fans were able to sneak Amir Johnson into the first pair of choices.

So now you get choose the very first pick for the new All World Hoops League.

Amir Johnson or Kevin Durant.

Good luck. Once you have made your choice there is no going back or trading that choice for the next 5 years.

Choose now or forever sacrifice your corporate box seat at the Palace.

My choice is Amir Johnson

Durant and Johnson Draft Analysis

---------Durant-------Johnson
-------------------------------
Age -------19----------20
Height-----6'9"---------6'9" - 6'10"
Weight----225---------225

Durant
---------
Strengths
--------
Can create own shot almost at will
Excellent outside shooter
Gets to the line a lot and can convert

Weaknesses
---------------
Due to his ability to create his own shot at will shot selection can be iffy at times.
Though he rebounded well in college it remains to be seen if he can rebound at this level, due to his propensity to avoid contact.
Defense skills need a lot of work.
Passing skills only average at best

Johnson
-----------
Strengths
-------------
Superb athlete with great hops and all around athleticism
Can finish at the rim with the best of them
Has developed a very nice inside game which includes various spins moves and hook shots
Excellent shot blocker
Excellent rebounder both on offense and defense
Above average passing skills for a big man
Above average defender
Above average free throw shooter for a big man

Weaknesses
--------------
Needs to learn to play defense more with his feet
Needs to learn not to fall victim to head fakes.
Tends to over dribble sometimes, almost like he wants to be like Magic
Mid range jump shot needs work
Needs to cut down on unforced turnovers, many of which come off of passes, almost like he wants to be like Magic

Summary
----------
Durant is definitely the odds on favorite to win rookie of the year. He is a prolific scorer who can create his own shot at will and get to the foul line where he can convert. His rebounding and passing skills remain questionable as does his ability to play adequate defense.

He will put up plenty of shots and plenty of points and probably give up plenty of points on the defensive end.

Johnson is a double double man with a decent probability of putting up and occasional double triple. He plays well within the system and makes the other 4 guys on his team that on the court a lot better.

He has an excellent chance to lead his team to the world title within a couple of years.

Excellent shot blocker
Excellent rebounder both on offense and defense Even though he rebounded well in the D-League it remains to be seen in the NBA.
Above average passing skills for a big man Even though he could pass well in the D-League it remains to be seen if he can pass as well against tougher defenders.
Above average defender Even though he was very good at defense in the D-League it remains to be seen if he can play good defense against NBA players
Above average free throw shooter for a big man

Amir has more experience playing with guys like Sheed. Many of the advantages you have put up their is because of this.

Amir has shown all those strengths in the D-League. Only some of them we can tell right now.

Can Amir be better than Durant or Oden? Their is a good chance. He would of been at least a top 10 pick if not a top 5 pick if he went to college instead of coming straight out of high school.

You didn't make a pick? Durant or AJ?

On second thought. You picked Durant over AJ.

Thanks for your participation.

Re: New "All World Hoops League"

for the reply saying... aj hasn't done it against nba quality... well durant hasn't either... and he's as close to being the next jordan as he is the next darko (sorry folks).. nobody knows till the ball is thrown up and the game is played.

there strengths and weaknesses are against who they have played against so far, and i would not take durant with any pick i made in the top 5 most years.... could be great but not sure i want to build my team around a small scorer... how many of those do the league have that are great players, that never make it into the deep part of the playoffs.

for the record i take our guy, but then i am a homer

Re: New "All World Hoops League"

At least AJ has put up 20 and 12 in a real NBA game.

How many games will it take Durant to do that?

The 20 maybe with the volume of shots he'll be gift wrapped, but rebounds not a chance.... unless he really gets tough, he seemed timid enough banging it up in the summer league games i don't see him getting double figure rebounds often if ever.
