Seriously...when Joe goes out and gets a Joe-Type guy, we win almost everytime. We gag about that whole Pistons DNA company line but I feel as if Joe is onto something with it. It's as if Joe knows what he wants, and then easily recognizes it when he see's it.

Re: rodney stuckey

in Fiba (international Basketball) assist counts if at least one FT is made.

Stuckey is #2 among rookies in assists, #1 in steals, and #11 in efficiency.

You are talking per game averages? He's only played 6 games.

Thanks for mentioning that. Do you know if their rules are any more liberal concerning assists awarded on post up plays. In the NBA, if the player takes a dribble or even just takes his one step before he shoots there is no assist.

If believe that if you give a pass to someone cutting to the basket they take the pass plant their shooting foot for a layup or dunk and then score the passer gets an assist.

That is not true. A player can take a dribble (or two) and an assist can still be awarded. The basic premise is an assist has to be "a major part of the play."

Now what constitutes a potential assist? The NBA defines an assist in simple terms as:

Assist: A pass that leads directly to a basket.

Basically if the player after receiving the pass pauses or dribbles around for a while before taking action it's not an assist, but otherwise if the player takes the pass and immediately shoots (catch and shoot), drives to the basket, or has a little pump fake type move to throw off the defense and then goes up for the shot (with perhaps one small dribble even) then you're talking assist.

Rodney Stuckey reminds me of a young Tim Hardaway in that he's terrific with his stop-and-start dribble drives. He's a difficult guy to stay in front of. Since he just returned from an injury last week, he's just now learning that beating his defender is a small part of the battle in the NBA. He's getting 48 percent of his shots from near the rim, but shooting just 38.5 percent on those shots, with 23 percent of those shots blocked, according to 82games.com.
