Pistons DNA for sure..like Tay and Maxiell. Some of the big draft busts like Rodney White and Darko didn't have an ounce of Pistons DNA. If Joe used Piston DNA as a criteria for draft selection he might have gone with Bosh in the 2003 draft. I think Mateen had the right DNA but was still a bust. |
Rodney White was a troubled young man. But he had a ton of talent. I enjoyed watching his whole career, what there was of it anyway, thru league pass. I hope he makes a comeback. People do grow up. We got him as a 19 year old, and in my opinion, took too little responsibility in keepig this young man out of mishief.
At his best, Rodney White could guard anyone from Garnett to Iverson. That year he also scored at a rate of 26 points per 48 minutes. He could drive in with the best as well as knock down triples. He became a skilled shooting guard, able to dish assists to go along with his scoring. And he was doing this while not even having a real role with Denver. Denver did not use him as a starter, nor as anyone's backup. He just filled in here and there, being anywhere from a shooting gaurd to a power forward, depending on who was injured or in foul trouble. He managed to average 16 minutes a game like this, and was a fan favorite in Denver. (And except for a few games on NBA TV which I did not have at the time on my cable system, I did not miss any of it.)
Oh yeah, I have NBA TV these days on my cable system, and I am not missing any of Darko's career either.
