Talking Point - Lindsey Hunter

This is from detnews.

It became clear on the Pistons' western trip how much they miss Hunter, especially his disruptive defense. The Pistons are ranked 21st in takeaways, averaging 14 a game. They will do better than that when Hunter gets back. Without him, coach Flip Saunders has been reluctant to trap up the floor. Hunter is one of the best in the league at that.

Anyone share McKoskys opinion? Looking forward to Hunters return?

Does Hunter make up for his lack of offense with Prime defense? What benifits the team more Arroyo's offense or Hunters defense?

Hunter will be better in a better offensive scheme. I think he was confused and hindered last year and the year before.

Needless to say, Hunter's defense is a huge asset. Given the ability for this team to score almost at will, and many of those opportunities coming off of stops, Hunter could easily outproduce Arroyo in +/- this year.

Of course Hunter is not the future. But he is an asset that many teams would like to have on their bench I am sure. Joe doesn't keep Lindsey around just because they are friends.

I agree

Hunter could and should also benifit from the new offensive sets. Will it be enough to make up for his offense over what we get from Arroyo? I am not really sure what the answer is.

Many times he would have been very usefull stopping some of the guards we have faced.

Last night I missed Hunter. He sets a tone with his defense and when your letting the other team score 60 points in a half, even though we crushed them in the second half....you need a defensive specialist to get the team going. He won't play as much as Arroyo...but there are times when this team needs to be reminded to get tough on defense.

Leadership by example. Very true. Lindsey is like a mini-Ben with his work ethic and effort. And his shooting...

HAHA! Just read a great line from Dallas' Head Coach Avery Johnson while scouting this coming weekend's Pistons victims.

Quote:
"I'll go to D.A. (Darrel Armstrong) in a heartbeat," Johnson said. "He changes the game, and he's gutsy. "He's the epitome of what I want defensively. He screws up my offense sometimes, but that's OK. It's give and take."
That's how I would view Lindsey Hunter if I was the bench boss.

Hunter

Have to remember that job he did on Dwayne Wade. In a situation like that Hunter will make up the difference with his D. But you can't shelve the guy for a few games and expect him to be sharp. He will have to play at least a few mins every game. Coaches always love the guy so he will play.

Probably end up cutting mins with Arroyo similiar rather than Evans on most nights. They have been playing at 15.7/13.4 for Evans/Arroyo. That would knock Arroyo down to around 6-8 MPG or so. Not an easy choice as Arroyo have been playing well.

Thumbs up Hunter

Hunter will be a HUGE asset come playoff time. He's a defensive stopper and a proven vet on a bench filled with inexperience and untested playoff mettle.

I love Hunter and always have. He's a great character guy, always gives 100% effort and is just plain fun to watch on defence.

Get well soon Hunter, we're going to need you in a few months. (But not too soon, the rookies can really use your minutes right now)

it became clear to me after our 7-0 start and great offensive flow that we don't need hunter so much. arroyo's defense isn't that bad and his offense is wayyyyy better than hunters. lindsey stops the other team and stops us from scoring. when lindsey comes back our 100 pt avg will drop to something like 92.

lindsey should have spot defense duty only. we are playing games with only 2 point guards dressed. that means flip has confidence in delfino and tay that they can play some point too. hunter just stay ready for the playoffs.

Post Hunter era

If Hunter retires or is not the same post injury does any think Marcus Banks would be a viable alternative as the lock down ballhawking defender. Boston failed to pick up his option. He will be an unrestricted free agent. He is kind of beaten down possibly a JD diamond in the rough. Any thoughts or opinions?
