Smile The Pistons NBA Media Tracker

I am not exactly sure how to set up this thread and if it should include a poll or not.

However, I don't recall ever having seen a thread on this site that talks about members of the media and their coverage of the Pistons.

Who is favorable toward us, unfavorable, neutral.

Who we think is knowledgeable about the Pistons and the NBA is general and who is not.

My initial thinking was that hopefully we would talk sports writers who cover the Pistons and the NBA.

We could also include blogs.

Hopefully we can get some good in depth discussions going and add to it during the regular season.

I know that some of these writers from time to time really irritate me and a thread like this might be a good place to vent.

Living in Los Angeles I will start by commenting on Mark Heisler, who covers the NBA for the Los Angeles Times.

He has been doing it for an awfully long time, I believe since at least the Bad Boy era. I don't know when his bad attitude toward the Pistons started, but I can't recall ever reading anything by him about the Pistons that was favorable. I think he can be sarcastically funny and is very knowledgeable about the NBA, but for some reason he seems to really dislike us.

At this time of the year it is, at least for me, difficult to remember much about specific NBA writers and it may be the same for others on the forum. But I would think that once the season starts up, we could have lots to say.

Maybe we could even wind up ranking them as the year moves on.

This could turn out to be a very interesting thread over the year, or it could be a dud. It wouldn't be the first dud thread that I have started on this forum. Hopefully this one will turn out to become very interesting and enlightening, entertaining as the season progresses.

Re: The Pistons NBA Media Tracker

Maybe we could come up with a list of personalities and discuss them individually. Granted, some of us are familiar with the local writers/bloggers that others may not know.

Tim Legler ESPN - Always dogs the Piston's to the point I feel if we ended his career in some way / didn't sign him and promised him a spot etc.

Tru dat... I am more familiar with the TV media guys and there are other formers players llike Legler that have dogged them when given a open Mic such as Scotty Pippen and even former Piston Alan Houston.

Reggie Miller, Greg Anthony and Barkley have given them props and then you have perennial fence sitter Walton, who dogs them in the first qtr and praises them in the second...oh well he does that to all teams. John Saunders seems to have a dirty taste in his mouth about the Pistons ever since the palace brawl....

More Heisler stuff. This from today.

Even more dismaying than seeing Greg Oden and Kevin Durant coming West was the sight of LeBron James taking his raggedy Cleveland Cavaliers, who might not have made the playoffs in the West, to the Finals in June.
Everyone knows that the West was better than the East last year, but to say that the Cavs wouldn't have made the playoffs if they were in the West is a bit extreme in the least, in my opinion.

In spite of GS getting hot in the playoffs and playing the right teams for them to beat I seriously doubt that GS and the Lakers both tied for 7th in the West last year with 42 - 40 records would have finished ahead of the Cavs who were 19 - 11 against the Western Conference last year. In fact only the Suns, Spurs and Mavs had better regular season records against Western Conference teams last year than the Cavs did.

A lot of the reason for the 4 - 0 blowout had to do with the Cavs not having been to the finals before and Pop out coaching Brown. Of course Pop out coaches just about every coach so that was no surprise.

The article is about basically about Kobe, but I needed to post the link.

Great thread idea.

Kenny Smith says the Celtics will dominate the East.

There must be a lot of cool aid being drunk by media people covering the NBA. I think it has a soylent green color and is being passed off as herbal tea.

Here's how I see the East as teams begin their preseason schedules.
1. Boston Celtics – With three unselfish stars in Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, and Kevin Garnett, the learning curve is shorter than most. They will dominate a conference
