last season

mcdyess didn't exactly come roaring out of the gates either. i think last year those few game when he started helped him out a bit. don't worry he will get his shot going then everyone will be singing the praises of the second unit. mcdyess gets so many open shots it's unreal. he just has to knock them down.

Proclaiming McDyess done is, quite simply, stupid.

Now, maybe there'd be some truth to it if he wasn't getting enough lift on a favorite power move. Or if benchwarmers were cleaning the boards with him. Or if he couldn't get off his shot. But the simple fact is, he's missing open jump shots. So unless there's a detached retina we don't know about, the shots he used to make are shots he'll make again. That's the basis of his post-injury game and he shouldn't have trouble mainintaining it any more than a Kurt Thomas or Alonzo Mourning does.

Having said that, I'd be giving more time to Darko or possibly Maxiell. A veteran who's not producing should still have to earn his time like anyone else.

Antonio is back. He's rocking the rim like it's 2000 again.

I'm very excited for the potential with McNice this year. He should EASILY be a 6th man candidate this year. He won't win because he is not a "sexy" pick but I am feeling great about his comfort level increasing both with Flip's system and confidence in his knee. He's much more aggressive than last year.

In the last 3 games, he's shooting 10/19, 4 blocks, 4 steals, 17 boards and 26 points.

what a difference better shooting makes. yes he was shooting poorly which prompted some of the premature responses in this thread ('mcdyess is done'), but i dunno how so many people missed his hustle for loose balls and rebounds during that stretch. he plays hard every time he's on the floor.

Good point., Warthog. McDyess is certainly going to be a key this year. He always seems to come down with big rebounds when the team needs them. How sweet it would be for Antonio to get a ring after all that he has endured.

Darko will be happy this year with his 5-10 MPG as long as its consistant. He may play more as the season goes on and Flip starts experimenting with using a front-court guy as a backup 3. Just that during a winning streak you do not want to change anything. This really is like DArko's rookie year as he has to make up for 2 years of almost nothing.

Max was correct, even 3 years ago. This thread is funny looking back at it now. Many of the posters wanted to replace McDyess with Darko.
