Flip and Dupe for J.R. Smith?

Quote:
Trade talk: The Denver Nuggets have discussed trading J.R. Smith to Detroit for Flip Murray. However, there are a couple of issues that make it unlikely the deal will be completed.
Detroit wants to include Ronald Dupree, which isn't necessarily something the Nuggets want. In addition, there are some concerns on Detroit's part about whether
Smith, who has had his share of problems on and off the court, would be
a good fit with their current roster.

Interesting little deal, all players involved have 1 year left on their contracts. J.R. scores more and passes slightly less than Flip. I can see Karl get to like Dupe's athleticism. What do you guys/gals think?

i'd do it - dude can light up the 3-ball and finish at the rim...not sure how his attitude would work, but he could be a big spark off the bench. it would probably hurt afflalo though, but then again flip being hurt does the same thing anyway.

I think Flip can help us, but I would rather have JR.

Do it and waive Dupree if necessary.

Re: Flip and Dupe for J.R. Smith?

hat Smith on my fantasy team last year. That dude can shoot the lights out from 3 pt land and showed he can score (just remember the last exhibition game when he scored at will against our bench players).
Still has some room for improvement. Acquiring him would mean almost no minutes for AA and Stuckey having to play the one- I'm not sure how this is going to work, Stuckey seems to be a 2 with decent passing abilites to me, not like a 1. Still, FlipM ain't no 1 either and JR's definetely a better player.

Re: Flip and Dupe for J.R. Smith?

I would rather have Flip Murray. The only advantage for us is that we could get rid of two guys for one if we could include Dupree. Sure Smith is a better player but we need depth at pg.
It would be better if we had delfino and made this trade but having moved delfino, and acquired Hayes, I think its not going to help as much...Hayes and JR will need shots to be effective. My gut feeling is they would cancel each other out.

That trade is a no brainer, even if the Pistons have to keep Dupree's contract.

Joe...HIT THE BID.

Oct. 4, 2007 - 11:41 a.m. ET The Nuggets have until Oct. 31 to sign guard J.R. Smith to a contract extension that would begin next season. If it doesn’t happen, Smith becomes a restricted free agent in the offseason. "If we can work something out, that’s fine," Smith said. "But if we can’t, if we win games, all that other stuff will take care of itself (next summer)." The team and player are not believed to be close to an agreement at this point, and it would be surprising to see it happen given the problems Smith and George Karl had with each other last season. Oct. 11, 2007 - 9:12 a.m. ET J.R. Smith and George Karl are already not seeing eye to eye and this could be a long season for the long-range bomber. Karl vows to be less patient with Smith this season. "I just think J.R. had too many bad plays (Tuesday) for a team that wants to be a championship team," Karl said. "Last year, we tolerated it. This year, it probably won't be tolerated." In the preseason opener, against the Clippers, Karl twice pulled Smith after fourth-quarter turnovers, including an errant behind-the-back pass. "(Karl) likes us to make simple plays," Smith said. "That behind-the- back pass was just making the game harder." Smith will have his moments on the court this season, but doesn't make for a good long-term fantasy investment.

Oct. 15, 2007 - 10:50 a.m. ET J.R. Smith returned to action for the Nuggets Sunday after being benched by coach George Karl on Friday. Smith has already apologized to teammates for his behavior and has caught the wrath of Karl a couple times this month. "I’m not trying to be a team cancer," he said

Re: Flip and Dupe for J.R. Smith?

Smith is only 21 years old. He was taken with the 18th pick in 2004 by New Orleans. Here are his career stats:

ESPN - J.R. Smith Stats, News, Photos - Denver Nuggets - NBA Basketball

In 23.4 mpg last year, Smith averaged 13.0 pts, 2.3 reb, 1.4 ass. The assist numbers are not great, but he did shoot 81.0% at the free throw line.

This past summer, Smith crashed his car and one of his friends, a passenger, died in the crash. In less than a year, he totaled 27 points on his drivers license. His license has been suspended five times.

Buddafan...I hear ya. But George Karl is no picknik to get along with either. How much of the problem was JR Smith's and how much was Furious George's?
